In what may seem like a coin-flip game in Minnesota, there are reasons to favor Green Bay. None is greater than the experience and talent of Jordan Love, who has led the Packers to wins in four of six games. Countering him for the Vikings is Jaren Hall, the No. 164 pick who has 10 pass attempts. The absence of T.J. Hockenson matters, but the availability of Jordan Addison is more important. The question is whether Hall will have time to get the ball out to him and Justin Jefferson; the Pack will be focused on knocking the rookie out of rhythm. Look for Love to have success against the Vikes' secondary and for Green Bay to pull out a second straight road win.
In the thick of a struggle for a wild-card berth, the Vikings made the questionable decision to bench turnover-prone QB Nick Mullens in favor of untested rookie Jaren Hall. The Packers' defensive woes were highlighted in yielding a season-high 30 points to the woeful Panthers last week, but this is still the better overall team in a prime spot to take advantage of an injury-plagued Minnesota club.
Both of these teams are piling up injuries on each side of the ball, but it's the home team that I expect to come out victorious. Given the issues on the defense, I expect both teams to move the ball pretty well, but I also expect Brian Flores to force enough mistakes from Jordan Love to be the difference. The losing team can wave goodbye to their playoff chances. With that in mind, I think Kevin O'Connell has confidence that QB Jaren Hall can get this crucial win.
Jordan Love on the road against a top five run defense, down a bunch of weapons in the pass game has me thinking Jones sees plenty of the ball in the horizontal pass game. He went over this - barely - in the first meeting of these teams and if they are struggling to get Jones going on the ground as I think they might, leaning into the check downs and quick passing game is the way to go. Banged up at WR and TE need the ball in their best players hands in the best position to attack this particular defense.
Green Bay has allowed 15 rushing TDs this season - not good - and eight in the last six games, Chandler has emerged as a go-to guy on the ground for the Vikings and they are finally moving the ball a little better than through the first two months of the season.
He looks to be all the way back, finally. And ready to be a bellcow again and someone who can score from outside the redzone again, too. Yes DIllon might still see goal-line stuff but Jones getting 20+ carries again will lead to these opportunities. Vikings allowed just 7 rushing TDs through 13 weeks but 4 in the last 2.
Ty Chandler has performed very well as the feature back for the Vikings and looks set to handle a hefty workload as the Vikings are set to take on the Packers run funnel defense on Monday Night Football. Minnesota will be shorthanded without TJ Hockenson and possibly Jordan Addison who represent two of their top three pass catchers. The Vikings are also starting rookie Jaren Hall and as a result I believe Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell will look to protect the young QB by relying heavily on Chandler as long as hes working with a neutral/positive game environment. Look for Chandler to get the bulk of the work in the Vikings backfield in what is a plus matchup.
Aaron Jones is now the focal point of the offense. While the receivers are banged up, Jonsey is finally healthy. He should cruise over.
Vikes will go with a rookie at QB. No Hockenson headlines their injuries. I don’t see them getting to 23 in this spot. I’ll pay to find out if this rookie is ready. Under.
The Packers will be playing their first back-to-back road games in over two months, and this will be their third road game in 20 days. They are ranked 24th in yards per play on defense (5.5), while Minnesota is ranked ninth (5.0). Green Bay ranks 26th in yards allowed per rush (4.5), while Minnesota is coming off a game where they rushed for only 17 yards. Jaren Hall played the final 11 snaps of the Vikings' win over the Packers after Cousins was injured and started the following week against the Falcons, but left that game after just 11 snaps when he sustained a concussion. Minnesota is ranked fifth in DVOA defense, while GB is ranked 30th. Give me the home team in this spot!
The difference in injuries for these rivals is night and day. The Vikings are beat up, with no absentee more significant than TE T.J. Hockenson. The Packers are fiddle-fit for this time of the season. Vikes pass rusher D.J. Wonnum is out, too, a benefit for maturing Green Bay QB Jordan Love. In all but one of his last half-dozen outings, he has thrown for no interceptions and a minimum two touchdowns. Minnesota has swapped out QBs again, going with Jaren Hall over Nick Mullens. It's a big ask for the rookie Hall, in his second start, minus Hockenson and possibly Addison.
This is a battle of two division rivals desperate to try and find their way into the playoffs while also trying to simply field healthy rosters. The Packers have been obliterated by injuries the last few weeks but might be getting a little bit healthier for Jordan Love this week. Meanwhile the Vikings got hit with some major injuries, losing T.J. Hockensen for the season and likely Jordan Addison for this week. We should see plenty of blitzing from Brian Flores but Aaron Jones full strength in the passing game should be enough to ease up the pressure and allow Jordan Love to get some shots open downfield as well.
The Packers offense continues to deal with a bunch of injuries at skill positions, but now the Vikings are in the same boat after losing T.J. Hockenson, with Jordan Addison also questionable for this week. Green Bay will have the better QB in this game, with Jordan Love looking like a top-32 signal-caller and the Vikings now turning back to Jaren Hall, a Day 3 rookie. The Vikings defense could be a problem for Love, but the Packers offense ranks fifth in sack rate. I expect the Packers defense to be focused after an embarrassing effort at Carolina, and they'll get key takeaways to deliver the Packers a close win.
Although there is little trust in the QB position for Minnesota, losing TE Hockenson for the season is just adding insult to injury. Packers will keep their slim playoff hopes alive after this one.
