Jacobs carried a whopping 26 times last week and new coach Antonio Pierce kept feeding the 2022 rushing king even though he wasn't doing much yardage wise. The Jets are near the bottom against the run and with LV starting a rookie QB again, Jacobs should get 20-plus touches.
This will end up being Zach Wilson's last start ... if he gets through it. Problem is the Jets don't have a real back-up option at QB. Maxx Crosby will ravage a horrible Jets OL and Josh Jacobs will gradually lean on their DL and Raiders can also count on long FGs. Raiders defense is solid enough and Jets have just 8 offensive TDs all season and two in the last three games. I like Raiders to win the 1st quarter as well. Jets have 12 first-quarter points. Raiders 3-1 at home. Jets defense's frustration with its offense is ready to boil over.
This is more of a situational play than anything else. The downward-trending Jets traveling across the country on a short week to face a Raiders team that has found new life is a tough ask. Add to it Zach Wilson's continued struggles, New York's struggling offensive line and Las Vegas' ferocious defensive front, and this feels like it will be similar to the Chargers game last week. The Raiders are certainly not world-beaters, but they do have playmaking talent. This will likely be a pick 'em before kickoff, so take the point (plus, if you can find it).
I expect the Raiders to run their offense through him. A ton of carries and ample targets, too. I don't want to get tied up in one market or the other (rushing/receiving), so am going with his scrimmage total. This is a stout Jets defense overall and it's going to take volume and a stick-with-it approach with the bell cow RB, but that's what I am banking on - something like 30 touches and over 100 scrimmage yards with a rookie QB and the Raiders desperate to get back to .500. They'll ride their best players.
New Raiders coach Antonio Pierce is a former MLB. I know him well from back in the day. He is going to ride his RB hard here. Jets are just 22nd against the run, and they just played Monday night on the East Coast. I think he easily approaches the 26 carries from Pierce's first game in charge last weel and am paying this 20+ in alt markets. Jacobs will be well fed.
I'm unwilling to choose a winner at the end of the game here, but i do think the Jets are the better team. As for the 1st half, I think the Jets will benefit from a conservative approach from new head coach Antonio Pierce. That conservative approach should play into the hands of a very good Jets defense and a Jets offense that I think has some firepower. Look for Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson to get going early and have a lead at halftime.
Breece Hall is quickly becoming one of my favorite NFL running backs with his rare combination of having the ability to be a between the tackles bruiser and go the distance any time he touches the ball. The Raiders aren't particularly strong against the run, allowing 138.7 rushing yards per game. I see Hall, who has the explosiveness to hit this number on a single run, pushing or going over 100 yards on the ground in this one.
The Jets are very good on the defensive side of the ball, but they have had some issues defending the run this season. With the Raiders starting rookie Aidan O'Connell, I expect Jacobs to get a heavy workload on Sunday Night Football.
Tonight’s Sunday night football game is expected to be tough on both offenses. The Jets are already familiar with Jakobi Meyers from his days with the Patriots, and will do their best to neutralize Davante Adams. Look for rookie quarterback Aiden O’Connell to get enough safety route throws to tight end Michael Mayer. Play his over yards.
Hall is regularly over 90 yards, save for a driving rainstorm against the cross town rivals. I’ll continue to play him each time it’s under 90 and cash enough weeks to make this a profitable play. I also like that Hall is a decent receiver who can help us in all facets of this offense.
The Raiders have a new regime. We need to listen to Antonio Pierce when he says he has to get the ball to Jacobs over and over and over again. Some books have this at 18.5! Let’s play it here while we still can
I like how aggressive the Raiders are playing defensively. They play with a passion and a sense of urgency. Very similar to the New York Jets. Which is why I can't trust a rookie Aidan O'Connell nor Zach Wilson in this game to find consistent success for their offense. It'll be up to the great RBs in this game to find the end zone, which also means a lot of running clock.
Things are so bad for Robert Saleh's attack (which has scored only 8 TDs in eight games!) right now that he probably envies the Raiders, even as Vegas has opted for Purdue rookie QB Aidan O'Connell, whom many insiders maintain is an immediate upgrade from Jimmy G after playing within himself in last week's romp past the other Meadowlands entry. Josh Jacobs (98 YR and a pair of TDs) also got going for the Raiders who seemed to have an extra spring in their step for interim HC Antonio Pierce, whose role is mostly for inspiration and leadership...two things Josh McDaniels wasn't providing much of this (or last) season). Play Raiders
Jets running back Breece Hall had a big catch called back due to a penalty last week, and he finished with 10 receiving yards on four targets. The Raiders give up the eighth-most targets to opposing running backs, so I like Hall to get back to how he performed in his two previous games when he finished with a combined 130 receiving yards.
I love this matchup for Breece Hall who is facing a Raiders run defense that is 28th in EPA allowed per rush and have become a significant run funnel. Hall handled an elite 84% of carries against the Chargers in Week 9 while posting his third straight game of a 60%+ snap share. Hall ranks 2nd in breakaway yards and 8th in elusive rating which sets this spot up as a potential smash spot/ceiling game.
I love the Jets in this spot. The Raiders layer their SB last week for the new Coach, and now reality sets in: a bad rookie QB v a Jets D that shuts you down. Jets won’t have 3 fumbles and give up a STeams TD. Jets roll
The Raiders had their predictable spike in performance after dismissing Josh McDaniels, but the run game was mediocre in the win and Aidan O'Connell wasn't asked to do much. That might be the same this week, as the Jets offense has looked hopeless the last few weeks. They can't pass, they can't convert third downs, they can't score in the red zone, so they shouldn't be counted on for many offensive points. This is a tough matchup for the Raiders offense, but the Jets' defensive stats are skewed a bit by the Tommy DeVito game, and the Raiders have the receivers to move the ball in this matchup. The Raiders might be the better team at this point and shouldn't be catching points at home.
