Last year Tua led the NFL in passing yards. It’s a system. And Thompson is a quality backup Who has been in the system for three years. I love the over here
The Dolphins have already game planned to get the explosive RB in open space on swing passes and this should be an even more prominent part of the game plan with Skylar Thompson at the helm instead of the injured Tua Tagovailoa. Achane could clip this number on one play, but he feels like a safe bet to hit it on volume as well.
The Dolphins haven't covered their last five games and they go to Seattle with no Tua Tagovailoa have to start backup Skylar Thompson. And the spread is only four and a half? What am I missing? Seahawks are likely without Kenneth Walker but Zach Charbennet is ready for action. And the Seahawks are home. I don't know how this team that was not functioning with their starter is going to produce anything with their backup quarterback. Seahawks cover.
Skylar Thompson did not impress as a fill-in for Tua Tagovailoa as a rookie, but he's had more than a year to develop under one of the best offensive minds in the game. I'm throwing out his performance as a sub last week down 31-10, and I like that he's had extra time to prepare here. He'll be better supported by the rushing attack in this stint as starter with De'Von Achane in the fold as well. The big reason to play the Dolphins here is the number of injuries on the Seahawks side, with four key players out and five others questionable. That will make it hard to win by margin against an elite offensive coach, no matter his QB.
Achane has seven targets and seven catches in each of his first two games, and he is desperately needed this week as a check-down guy for Skylar Thompson. What he gives Miami is an explosive play once every 3.5 catches, which is huge, and so far he's averaging 10.4 yards per catch. There is no way the Dolphins let this guy's skill-set go to waste. It begs the question: How good is Seattle against RBs in the passing game? The answer? Amazing. 2.0 yards per catch ... against the Broncos and Patriots. Achane is a much tougher draw for Seattle.
This is a big overreaction, as Tua is simply a league-average QB. However, the market is being priced as if he were a top 3 QB in the league, even with Skylar Thompson stepping in. Thompson knows the system well, and they've had a long 10-day week to prepare for this matchup. Tyreek Hill, De'Von Achane, and the rest of the team will do enough with the short-area passing game. Seattle overvalued after beating a rookie QB in his NFL debut, and winning in OT against a terrible Patriots team.
Miami makes the NFL season's longest road trip within the country, and it could be a really long ride home. QB Skylar Thompson steps in for the ailing Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins have gone 1-4 straight-up without their main man, scoring an average of 19 points. New defensive-minded Seattle coach Mike McDonald lucks into a third straight meeting against a subpar or green QB after having held Denver (Bo Nix) and New England (Jacoby Brissett) to 20 points apiece. If the Seahawks can reach the mid-20s, a cover is probable.
We know the Seahawks offense can spread out defenses and work touchdown-to-check down in the passing game. Where this game will be won for Seattle is on defense. They're facing 3rd year player Skylar Thompson, who is starting in place of Tua Tagovailoa. While Thompson has experience in the system, he doesn't possess the quick release of Tua to make aggressive defenses pay.
Seahawks will have to run the ball more than they did in New England and I expect that to be the MO here. Either way, this is not an explosive offense thus far and Miami will have to zone it up and make em earn it. Mike McDaniel will try to attack Seattle on the ground with outside zone going back to his days in San Fran (SEA run D is still bad), knowing Skylar Thompson can't do much in the air. Is Tyreek Hill really healthy with how much he is in and out of games? Miami's OL beat up. Seattle HC Mike Macdonald knows how to shut this Miami attack down from his days running BAL defense. Miami wasnt even scoring with Tua
