A rookie QB versus a veteran QB who probably should not be a starter anywhere usually means a total under 40 in Week Two. Commodores QB Jayden Daniels was decent in his debut, but his so-so O-line could get toyed by the Giants' defense. Daniel Jones was dreadful in New York's opener, though he can take solace in having marginal success against Washington. Scoring will be a struggle this season without RB Saquon Barkley to receive handoffs.
I’ve been waiting all week to play this over… But needed to hear that Nabers was healthy. He should get peppered and go over. Like the yards better than catches as they slot him at 5.5 and I project a slight over of 6.
Last week, Tampa Bay wide receivers had 15 catches for 195 yards and four touchdowns against the Commanders. Rookie Malik Nabers should have plenty of room to find separation and as poor as Daniel Jones has been playing in 2023-2024, even he should capitalize against this bad secondary. Nabers tops 80 yards in his second NFL game.
The reigning Heisman winner Jayden Daniels ran the ball a whopping 16 times in Week 1 and Commanders coach Dan Quinn flat-out said that's too many. “(Sixteen) carries is not the model that we’re looking for. … I do think we’ll continue to grow in that spot, but (it is) certainly not by design to have that many,” Quinn said. The model has Daniels with eight carries.
If you care about such things, NY's Brian Daboll is the new betting favorite to be the first head coach fired. And he should be after that horrific Week 1 effort at home vs. Minnesota. Daniel Jones almost makes me miss Mitch Trubisky. Puked a little in my mouth saying that. Zero chance DJ is a Giant this time next year. Starting WR Darius Slayton is in question (concussion protocol). I don't really think much of Washington, either, but it's the home opener and there should be some rare excitement around the team due to Jayden Daniels. Although he's going to get killed if the former Heisman winner keeps running the ball 16 times per game. So let's play a prop there ...
Malik Nabers actually was out targeted by check down extraordinaire Wan'Dale Robinson. If I am Brian Dabboll that will be the first and last time that happens this season. Nabers looked very explosive and despite a difficult matchup where Daniel Jones was under constant duress, Nabers still managed 5 receptions for 66 yards on 7 targets. This is a significantly more favorable matchup against a Commanders pass defense that was historically bad last year.
The Giants offense was abysmal against the Vikings last week, but this is a matchup where Daniel Jones has a shot of leading his team to points. With Brian Daboll calling plays, the Giants should be able to move the ball against this awful Commanders defense that allowed the Bucs to score on seven of eight drives in Week 1. The Commanders can also have success against a Giants D with nothing on the back end, especially if the coaching staff lets Jayden Daniels throw more this week. I see this game getting to the high 40s.
Despite it being only Week 2 of the season, we've already reached "must win" status for the Giants. There's very little confidence within their offense and passing attack to warrant picking them vs a team they've done well against under Daniel Jones. If we're being honest, I trust a rookie Jayden Daniels and Dan Quinn vs the Giants more so than anything.
