The 49ers have not played in their stadium since Nov. 5 after relocating to Phoenix, and the extended time away from home surely is wearing on them. They are down to quarterback No. 3, C.J. Beathard, whose straight-up record as a starter is 1-9. The Niners, overwhelmed by injuries, have won once outright in the past seven games with superior QBs. With 14 sacks in the last two weeks, ravenous Cardinals pass rushers will have Beathard on his heels.
This is on its way to a full touchdown, but I'm still comfortable picking the Cardinals. Kyle Murray is undefeated ATS (2-0-1) against the 49ers, and this San Francisco team is going to have trouble scoring. Even Arizona coach Kliff Kingsbury won't throw this one away. The Cards have won consecutive games ATS, while the 49ers are on an 0-3 ATS streak. Forget the quarterback change in San Francisco, it is down significant playmaking talent as well.
I typically wouldn't be looking to lay this many points in a divisional matchup like this, but I just don't see the 49ers having much success on either side of the ball with their numerous injuries. Yes, George Kittle is on the way back, but that's more than outweighed by losing Nick Mullens, Deebo Samuel, Raheem Mostert and Richard Sherman. A healthy Kyler Murray should have success against a banged-up 49ers defense, while the Cardinals' ninth-ranked DVOA defense is good enough to limit what C.J. Beathard can do. I think this line should be Cardinals -6.5 or -7 due to the San Francisco injury report, so this is some nice value in the matchup.
The Cardinals are 5-0-1 ATS in the last six meetings, and that should continue Saturday against the C.J. Beathard-led 49ers. Arizona has 14 sacks the past two weeks, and should force Beathard into mistakes. Deebo Samuel remains out, and George Kittle isn't going to play a full complement of snaps. Lay it.
The 49ers just gave up 41 points to the Cowboys, and now they have to deal with Kyler Murray. With C.J. Beathard slated to start for San Fran, back the Cardinals to win and cover.
News just came down that Niners QB Nick Mullens is expected out with an elbow injury and that third-string QB Josh Johnson landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. He would’ve been promoted. That means it presumably will be CJ Beathard here as I can't imagine a scenario where the nothing-to-play for 49ers try to put Jimmy Garoppolo back out there. Arizona, meanwhile, can clinch a playoff spot with a win and some help on Sunday. This doesn't seem like it will be very close -- San Francisco as it is has failed to cover six straight in the series.
