Not asking anything of Lowry he hasn't done. He's eclipsed this line in 3 of the four games this series, just one point shy in Game 4. I'll take that as a chance to hop back on the over. If Philly has any chance in this game, it will require solid performances from the supporting cast. And if they get blown out, I could still see Lowry getting heavy minutes here.
This line is based on a season average that doesn't apply. Donte DiVincenzo is 10-2 to the over coming into this game. With the mounting injuries on the Knicks side, I expect a big game from him all around. The Sportsline Model has him projected for 4.3.
Of all the NBA series, the Philadelphia 76ers and Knicks has been arguably the most competitive. Three of the four games so far have went down to the wire. Closing out a team in the playoffs is so difficult, and I expect the Knicks to feel that pressure on their home floor. Additionally, both Josh Hart and Donte Divencenzo struggled in game four. Take the points here with Philadelphia.
The Knicks are on the brink of advancing to the second round. Bojan Bogdanovic (foot) has been ruled out for Game 5, while Mitchell Robinson (ankle) is questionable. The 76ers have their own issues on the health front, with Kelly Oubre Jr. battling an illness and Joel Embiid missing shootaround Tuesday because of a migraine. While both will still likely play, they may not be at 100 percent. The Knicks also have a huge advantage with this game being played in New York. The 76ers were 22-19 on the road this season and lost for the first two games of this series in New York. I don’t want to mess with the spread, so I’ll pay the juice and just take the Knicks to win.
Brunson could finish with 32/10/5 and we still win this. Have to do it even though the Knicks All-Star blew past this number in the past two games in Philadelphia. The SL Model has him at about 45 PRA and our AI projections at essentially the same. If I'm Sixers coach Nick Nurse, I'm throwing the Jordan Rules at him tonight and daring everyone else to beat them.
The Knicks are very glad that Jalen Brunson scored 47 points on Sunday to put the Sixers on the ledge in this series. On the other hand, we suspect the Philly can live with Brunson responsible for almost half of his team's points (only 97 on Sunday), as at some point Tom Thibodeau is going to need others (OG Anunoby? Donte DiVincenzo? Miles McBride?) to pick up a greater share of the scoring burden. Speaking of picking up a greater share, Joel Embiid needs to do more than score 1 point in the 4th Q as the case on Sunday, but the Sixers have had a look at every game in this series, and realistically should be no worse than 2-2 entering tonight. Play Sixers
Kelly Oubre made approximately 1.5 three pointers during the regular season on just 31% 3PT FG%. Despite playing more minutes in the postseason, Oubre is taking just 3.3 three points per game, however he is shooting 46% from deep, which we know is not sustainable as he is a career 32% shooter from behind the arc. I like fading most of Oubre's props tonight but this is my preferred angle. I also believe he may lose a couple minutes to De'Anthony Melton as well.
“How can you not root for Brunson?” I hate when people say this. It’s easy to root against him if I’m a Sixers, Celtics, Bucks or fan of any team trying to beat him. But that said, I think the fervor surrounding him is too high off his game 4. This number is just too high. It’s emotional. Let’s play under and be logical.
Jalen Brunson is putting the league on notice and has out-dueled the reigning MVP on the way to leading a short handed Knicks squad to a 3-1 lead over the 76ers. Brunson is averaging 33 PPG, 9 APG, and 5 RPG. However this is a massive combo line typically reserved for Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic. With all due respect to Brunson who is an elite player and deserves All-NBA 1st team consideration, I have to fade him here out of sheer principle. I also believe the 76ers defense and HC Nick Nurse will make defensive adjustments, coupled with Brunson's teammates contributing more on their home court.
I hate fading Jalen Brunson as he is one of my favorite players in the league, however this is just an absurdly high number for the star guard. This series has surprisingly featured a ton of scoring considering how good defensively both these teams are, in addition to them both playing slow. Jalen Brunson has been everything for the Knicks but I believe his teammates will provide some more scoring when the series shifting back to New York. I also believe the Sixers defense will make some adjustments, coupled with this game being paced down.
