A Missouri club that had been known for its versatile and explosive offense has yet to yield a single point to opponents this season. That is likely to change Saturday but we expect to see some regression from a Boston College club that is a prime regression candidate following its upset of Florida State two weeks ago.
Boston College coach Bill O'Brien has his critics, but the man has won at every place he has been, college or pro. He also has a playmaking quarterback in Thomas Castellanos. The Eagles dominated Florida State in Tallahassee and declined to run up the score late in the game. Meanwhile, Missouri figures to be terrific this season, but so far the Tigers haven't played anyone. That changes Saturday. Boston College keeps this close.
The Tigers have given up zero points through two games, while BC has only allowed 13. Eagles QB Thomas Castellanos is dynamic and plays kind of like a poor man's Caleb Williams. Mizzou has the speed to keep up with and contain him, however. Bottom line: Given what we know thus far, it's hard for me to see this game total getting into the mid-50's.
Mizzou has been dominant through two weeks and they haven't even taken the car out of the garage yet. Their stars have hardly played, and BC's win over Florida State isn't as impressive as their ranking would have you believe.
These two teams have played a combined four games this season and registered three shutouts. The Tigers defense has been so dominant that they've only given up 254 yards COMBINED in their two contests. Boston College has been impressive thus far but the early season fun ends here. Defense rules for Missouri: Tigers 30, Eagles 14.
This game has some underrated star power with Boston College pass rushers going up against an explosive Mizzou offense. And on the other side, BC QB Thomas Castellanos and his dual-threat, field general qualities makes for an interesting challenge against an aggressive Missouri defense. This game will come down to the wire and a will be a single score contest.
