In what was universally expected to be the ultimate get-right game last week, the Eagles struggled to get past a stubborn Giants club as their defensive liability continued to be a nuisance. They should find less resistance against a Cardinals club that has suffered three double-digit losses in its last four outings and appears ready for an extended vacation.
The Eagles let us down last week, but we can blame an unexpected QB switch at halftime as well as an unfortunate Jalen Hurts pick-six for missing the cover by five points. I expected to stay away from them this week with the state of their defense, but now Kyler Murray is questionable with an illness that should affect his performance even if he's able to play. Marquise Brown is out as well, making the Cardinals offense less of a threat to Philadelphia. The Cardinals defense has been terrible of late, so the Eagles should have no problem putting up points in this game, and I'm less confident the Cardinals can keep up than I was early in the week.
Though I'd play this line on its own, I actually like Murray's passing + rushing combo line at 261.5 more than this individual prop. In what should be a get right game for Philadelphia, I expect Arizona to be in chase mode most of the day. I can see a 250 yard passing day and up to 50 rushing against an underachieving Eagles defense for Murray. I feel comfortable with betting overs on all of his yardage props this week.
This line is pretty shocking: the Eagles are scuffling lately. Coming out of the bye, Philly stole games from the Chiefs and Bills, then lost three straight games and then let the Giants hang around on Christmas Day last week. Kyler Murray and this offense -- particularly Trey McBride -- should be able to move the ball against Philadelphia. The Eagles offense is still a little wobbly, particularly when it comes to attacking via the air. I expected big things out of A.J. Brown on Christmas Day but he and Jalen Hurts really haven't been on the same page very much lately. This spread is just too high for a Cardinals team still fighting hard.
The Eagles are laying double digits to Kyler Murray and the Cardinals, in a spot where the whole world is likely expecting an Eagles blowout. However, Philadelphia is 0-2-1 ATS this season as a favorite of 7 or more. Kyler Murray is 15-6-1 ATS as a road underdog in his career, and 12-10 straight up! While I do expect the Eagles to win this game, I sense something is truly broken with the team that should give Eagles fans concerns going into the playoffs. Their secondary has been atrocious, their pass rush isn't getting home, and their offense hasn't been quite right. The Cardinals should be able to keep pace enough on offense to cover this wide number.
