Classic head vs. heart play. You have the Packers without DaVante Adams, and they can’t even rely on Allen Lazard (unvaccinated) or Marquez Valdes-Scantling (IR). So Aaron Rodgers will be throwing to the B team plus Randall Cobb. Green Bay is on the road. And it’s playing a team that has not only been just as successful ATS (6-1) this season but is seemingly eclipsing expectations weekly. And yet, we’ve seen similar stories before; Rodgers has won six straight without Adams by his side. The Cardinals are without J.J. Watt and enter with DeAndre Hopkins (hamstring) hobbled. The line moving from +3 to +4.5 would have been right on … but doubling to +6.5? I’ll take the leap of faith onto an island by myself with Rodgers and may even sprinkle on the moneyline because anything can happen on a short week in the NFL. See if you can get +7. Let’s hope there’s clean water.
Well, I was hoping this would hit 50 but guess not. To me, the question of whether this total goes Over 50.5 is if the Packers can get to 24 points, because I have little doubt that Arizona scores at least 27 against a Green Bay defense missing its best cornerback and pass-rusher (and maybe a few other guys). Washington went up and down the field on that unit last week but kept imploding in the red zone. Obviously, I know about Green Bay missing its top three wideouts, but I have faith in Aaron Rodgers -- and he should have a bit cleaner pocket with JJ Watt out for the Cards.
I originally was on Green Bay earlier in the week, but after thinking about it I don't like that the Packers have to deal with the loss of Davante Adams on a short week. If this game were on Sunday, the extra three days would help. But this Thursday game, on the road, really hurts them. I'm on Arizona to cover.
At first glance, six points seems like a lot in this game. But when you pull back the curtain, the potential of being without Davante Adams (COVID-19 list) on a short week vs. a very good Arizona Cardinals squad, it starts to make sense. The Packers were also very lucky to get out of that Washington game with a victory. A team like the Cardinals won't be as mistake-prone as Washington was in that game.
Scratch defensive coordinator Joe Barry and possibly other coaches. Probably scratch WR Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target on his way to an All-Pro season. Covid-19 is causing problems for Green Bay in this short week, which has inflated the line from -3.5. Though the Packers are unbeaten straight-up since Week 2, its offense has sputtered to a No. 24 league ranking. Arizona overcame a classic case of looking ahead, falling behind 20-point underdog Houston on Sunday before waking up for a cover. The Cardinals are not only perfect SU but 6-1 ATS.
Well, I was going to take Green Bay and the points, most likely, but the team is dealing with a COVID outbreak, with superstar receiver Davante Adams landing on the COVID list today along with defensive coordinator Joe Barry. In theory, Adams could still play Thursday, but it's very unlikely. Plus, Green Bay will have to meet virtually all week. Definitely not ideal. Can't possibly take the points with no Adams, and who knows what other players could be affected.
I already liked the Cardinals in this spot but after the news of Packers WR Davante Adams being placed on the Covid list it was secured. Green Bay's red zone defense looked tremendous last week against Washington however they did give up way too many yards and chunk plays that this Arizona team will capitalize on. Take the -4 before this number shoots even higher.
Your first instinct when you see this line is going to be to take the hook; after all, the Packers are 4-0 under Matt LaFleur when 'dogs of more than three points and Aaron Rodgers is healthy for this game. However, the Packers' 24-10 final score was not indicative of how last week's game went; Washington had zero problem moving the ball and left four potential scores on the board with turnovers on downs and a missed field goal. Taylor Heinicke even rushed for 95 yards, so what are Kyler Murray and this elite Arizona offense going to do? With Rodgers' backdoor potential, you may want to wait to see if you can get Cardinals -3, but I'd play them up to -4.
