Julius Randle has gotten off to an excellent start with his new team and while it appears he will be a great fit, I don’t believe he can sustain his current shooting splits and production. Randle is shooting a blistering 63% from the field and 54% from the perimeter. He’s also averaging 4 fewer field goal attempts per game and has been highly efficient. The Timberwolves have no shortage of high usage players and capable scorers. They will face a Mavericks team tonight that is both excellent defensively and plays at one of the slowest paces in the league. This looks like a natural spot to fade Randle in a game that should feature minimal possessions.
When the T-Wolves last saw Dallas, the Mavs were celebrating on the Target Center floor after clinching an NBA Finals berth. It was a 4-1 series win for Dallas, but it was actually much closer given Minnesota lost the first two games at home by a combined four points. I like the rested T-Wolves to show Tuesday that they're better than last year's version, especially with Dallas playing its third game in four nights. Lay the points.
The Dallas Mavericks played last night and won but didn't cover at Utah. Both their wins so far were at home and in their one road game they lost badly to Phoenix. I don't expect a spirited game from the Mavericks since they played last night I'm surprised that Kyrie Irving is playing back-to-back games. The Mavericks got on a hot streak in the playoffs and went all the way to the Finals. They beat Minnesota four games to one winning all three games in Minnesota. That's the theme that will be on the minds of the Timberwolves players for this game. Minnesota has won their last two. Dallas is shooting 42% which ranks 29th in the NBA. Minnesota wins tonight.
Just asking for less than average here. Julius Randle's career average is 9.4, and he has eclipsed this specific line in 2 of his last 3 games. Dallas should give him plenty of opportunities, as they are 2nd in the NBA at shot attempts with 96 per game. The Model makes the number 9.
Minnesota has payback on its mind for last season's Western Conference Finals loss to Dallas and perhaps we get lucky here and the Mavs rest Luka Doncic or Kyrie Irving and/or Klay Thompson in the second of a back-to-back. Doncic was dealing with a calf problem in the preseason so I don't think it's out of the question that Dallas plays it safe with him and Doncic sits.
