Even with last week’s ATS setback, Detroit went 7-3 in the prior 10 games and took five in a row outright. The Cowboys last covered five games back. The Lions have allowed a maximum of 20 points in their last eight games. If Dallas hits that figure, all the visitors need is 14 to cover. Piece of cake, the-day-after-Christmas dessert.
Regardless of whether Dallas needs this win, the Lions are a live underdog. They typically play close games, and the weather won't affect them like it did last week at MetLife. The Cowboys have failed to cover four straight games overall, and they're 6-13-1 ATS in their past 20 home games. Take the points.
It's possible the Cowboys will have nothing to play for by the time this game kicks off. Detroit is a live underdog with everything to play for. My projections show the Lions winning outright 35 percent of the time, making them a tremendous moneyline value at nearly +300.
With the hook available on this line, I'm ready to jump on the Lions. They've played quality defense in the second half, holding their opponents under 20 points in six straight games. The Lions were a little unlucky to get blown out by the Giants last week, watching a running back cough up the football in the shadow of the opponent's end zone. Another positive for the Lions: This game could mean nothing for Dallas if the Giants lose on Thursday (which I think will happen), and the Lions covering is a lock if Dallas has the No. 1 seed sewn up. Monitor the Thursday night game and bet accordingly if the Giants look headed for a loss.
An indoor game definitely helps the Lions. What also helps Detroit is the fact that this will be Matthew Stafford’s second game playing with the injured hand. However, I expect Dallas to be efficient offensively and maximize every possession. That will force the Lions to throw too much. Lay the points as the Cowboys wrap up homefield throughout the playoffs.
