The Raiders are without four offensive starters (RB Zamir White, WRs Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers, OL Thayer Mumford Jr.) and two defensive starters (tackle Christian Watkins and linebacker Tommy Eichenberg). Plus, the team is going back to Aidan O'Connell at QB, and I consider him a downgrade from Gardner Minshew. Pittsburgh's offense should get a little boost with the return of Jaylen Warren.
The pressure is on Justin Fields with Russell Wilson cleared and dressed behind him. Lucky for Fields, he gets a Raiders defense that allowed 36 points to the Panthers and 34 to the Broncos. The Steelers have struggled offensively, but all they need to do is outplay Aidan O’Connell, who is going to be under pressure all day without Davante Adams to help him. Pittsburgh is a bit undervalued here coming off consecutive losses, and while it is not among the top tier in the NFL, covering a field goal in this spot is far more likely than not.
Some real history in this series but for now it's time for a QB change with the Raiders, as Gardner Minshew goes out and Aidan O'Connell goes in. If only the Vegas problems ended there. The offense as a whole has been sluggish all season, with the running game inconsistent, and the Davante Adams saga has drawn out another week, still with him out of the lineup, and still no resolution to his status. The Steelers have taken a pair of tough losses in a row, and questions are beginning to mount re: QB Justin Fields, but Mike Tomlin's defense shows up every week. and Pittsburgh has beaten the Raiders each of the past two seasons. Play Steelers
Raiders linebacker Robert Spillane has registered six straight double-digit tackle games, dating to the end of last season. With Pittsburgh's run-oriented approach, I like Spillane to extend his streak to seven.
Don't be afraid of low totals. They will always entice Over bettors, yet their record for the past 5 years speaks volumes. Since 2019, games with a total of 37 or lower are 38-14-1 to the Under, hitting at a 73% clip! Raiders star WR Davante Adams will be out again this week with an "injured hamstring", that is more likely a cover for a trade demand & refusal to play for this Las Vegas squad. Pittsburgh's offense has not been dynamic as of late, and head coach Mike Tomlin is known for getting into grinding rock fights on the road. Back the Under trend here.
Raiders starting Aidan O'Connell hoping to give them a spark offensively. What they'll lose without Minshew back there is the element of mobility. O'Connell will have to be consistently perfect vs the Steelers pass rush, which I don't foresee that being the case for four quarters.
