Both teams dealt with major injuries over the course of the week, but things are much worse on the Eagles side, where A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Lane Johnson have all been ruled out. That should mean a focus on running the ball, but with Vita Vea set to play, there will need to be some level of passing game to score points. On the other side, the Bucs have both top receivers and Tristian Wirfs cleared and both top running backs expected to play, so there is potential for points against a hit-or-miss Eagles defense. Wrong team is favored here.
The Bucs got embarrassed at home last week, and I can't help but think they may have overlooked the Broncos and has their minds on this matchup a week early. Philadelphia will be without DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, while Tampa gets Vita Vea back. I like the Bucs in a bounce back spot here against the beat up Eagles.
Considering the crippling injuries to the Eagles top two WRs and offensive lineman, there's only one way you can play this game. The Bucs were basically a no-show last week in their upset loss to the Broncos last week, but should be in decent shape if they return to form Sunday.
Rematch time here after these sides met in the NFC wild card round last January when the Bucs rolled, 32-9. The Birds were slumping at the time but there was nothing fluky about the result. Now the Bucs are a bit worried about slumping after that bad effort vs. Denver last Sunday. but at least expect Baker Mayfield to have better success locating top target Mike Evans after he was held to one catch by the Broncos' Pat Surtain II last week. Meanwhile, Philly was fortunate that a busted coverage in the Saints secondary helped them steal a win at the Superdome, but remember Jalen Hurts was mostly flummoxed in the playoffs by the Todd Bowles defense, often effective vs. mobile QBs. Play Bucs
Saquon's been over this in every game with the Eagles, and we know the Eagles will be without at least one key WR on Sunday, maybe two, so he's a necessary factor. Tampa Bay's run defense won't be at full strength -- Calijah Kancey still hasn't played this season and Vita Vea might play but is questionable for the game. I know Vea makes a difference, but this is Saquon Barkley we're talking about. We know he'll get the work and we know he's capable of maximum damage. And just in case you're worried about how the Eagles O-line will operate without right tackle Lane Johnson, you should know Barkley averaged 9.6 yards per carry without him last week in a tougher matchup.
