The only teams that have been able to keep up with the Cowboys (4-0 ATS) this season are those that have been able to hang offensively. While New York piled up points against the sieve that is Washington, it struggled to find its footing in a pair of home losses. Dan Quinn has helped Dallas make some strides to the point that it's 10th in the league in team defense DVOA despite already facing Tom Brady and Justin Herbert. The Cowboys have their full complement of playmakers and appear to have figured out their personnel on the defensive side. The Giants have key injuries on both sides of the ball and are playing their second straight road game. Give me Dallas.
The Cowboys are the only perfect 4-0 ATS team, and they can beat you by running or throwing. The defense has improved, but it's still shaky allowing 396.3 yards per game. The Giants come off three nailbiters and finally won in overtime at New Orleans last week. They’re scrappy, and I’m expecting a few big game-changing plays by Saquon Barkley, who might finally be in game shape. The Giants covered both meetings last season. Too many points; so I took them. Giants to cover.
I hate betting right on 7 (it won't be going down and maybe back to 7.5) but can't really justify the big moneyline price -- I'd recommend Dallas on an alternate line of -6.5. But we will take the Cowboys and risk the push here. The Giants are a chic upset pick for some reason, and while they did win in New Orleans last Sunday were down 11 in the fourth quarter. New York for sure will be without starting wideouts Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton, guard Ben Bredeson and safety Jabrill Peppers. Left tackle Andrew Thomas is in doubt. Dallas appears in good health shape and is rolling offensively. Think this will matter to Dak Prescott? Almost one year to the day Sunday, he suffered severe leg/ankle injuries against these Giants (not that it was dirty).
Dallas is playing well and is one of the best teams in the NFC. The Cowboys have one of the best rosters in the conference with quarterback Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and rookie Micah Parsons, who has helped improve that defense. Meanwhile the Giants offense has struggled this season and doesn't have enough firepower to keep up with Dallas.
Both teams are far better on offense than defense. The Giants rank eighth offensively, averaging 6.4 yards per play, but are 22nd defensively. The Cowboys have the seventh-best offense with an average of 6.5 yards per play, but their defense is 30th (6.7 yards). New York has faced Denver, Washington, Atlanta and New Orleans - teams that have better defenses but weaker offenses than Dallas. The Over is 2-1 in the Giants' last three games and 3-1 in Dallas' four contests this year. New York QB Daniel Jones is completing 67 percent of his throws for 8.2 yards per toss and has four touchdowns against just one interception. Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is completing 75 percent of his attempts for eight yards per pass with 10 touchdowns and just two picks.
