Feel like the Hawks always hose me, but it's such a bad spot for the Cavs off that incredibly shocking comeback win over Boston on Tuesday, having to travel and without Donovan Mitchell, Max Strus and Evan Mobley (he was hurt Tuesday). Atlanta also played Tuesday but didn't have to work too hard in New York. The Hawks better take advantage when Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen are resting for Cleveland or they will lose.
This is a fade against a tired Cavs defense. As impressive as their win was, it came with some injuries. Bogdan Bogdanovic performs better at home and is seeing a low line due to a historically bad career against the Cavs. But I like the idea of a vulnerable Cavs defense tonight and Bogdanovic in a get right spot after a recent below average lull. The Model makes the number 16.7.
We backed Jalen Johnson frequently early in the season and it was a very profitable angle, but like everything it has gone full circle to the point the oddsmakers appear to be overvaluing him. For starters, JJ averages 28 PRA so this is a hefty combo line. It's also coming against the Cavs who are ranked third in Defensive Efficiency and play at the 8th slowest pace. Speaking of pace, the Hawks have been playing significantly slower with Trae Young on the shelf and this game has the second lowest projected total on tonight's slate. Johnson is likely to see quite a bit of Isaac Okoro tonight who is one of the league's best perimeter on ball defenders.
This is the second game of a back-to-back set for the Cavaliers. Donovan Mitchell (knee) has already been ruled out and Evan Mobley (ankle) is unlikely to play after leaving the arena Tuesday on crutches. Jarrett Allen scored 21 points Tuesday against the Celtics with Mitchell out and Mobley leaving the game early. Over his last eight games, Allen has scored at least 18 points six times. The Hawks have played at the fourth-fastest pace and have the fourth-worst defensive rating in the league, so with added shot attempts coming his way, take the over with Allen.
