Klay Thompson went 4 for 19 from deep over the last two games, and he's got a quick turnaround for Game 1 vs. the Lakers. LA ranks second in 3-point shooting percentage defense, holding opponents to 34.2 percent. This is not a good matchup for Thompson, so I'll go Under 4.5 made 3-pointers.
In 7 games against the Sacramento Kings Jordan Poole only went over this line 3 times. However, this is a new series with a bigger slower Los Angeles Lakers team where Poole’s quickness could be used to an advantage. Our SportslineAI is projecting 15.01 points for Poole, and honestly, this is about taking advantage of the line adjustment made by the books. In the first series his average line was 16.5 points. A 4 point adjustment is pretty large given Poole’s potential as a pure scorer. Hear the full breakdown on Early Edge in 5 at 4pm ET.
Anthony Davis should be in line for a fantastic series against the Golden State Warriors. In the Lakers series win over the Grizzlies the Lakers took advantage of a weakened roster. To defeat the defending champions in the Golden State Warriors the Lakers are going to need their stars to excel night in and night out. Take Davis to assert himself in game one as he has a big night.
Look for LeBron James to play floor general tonight in an uptempo game script. James knows that the Lakers have to continue to use the entire roster to take down opponents this postseason...and he also knows this could be a seven game series so tonight isn't the night to put the entire team on his back and go for 45+ points. Look for LeBron to feed Anthony Davis over and over plus the young cats on the wing to drill from deep. Lastly, shots from long range provide long range rebounds, a perfect combo facing Golden State.
The Warriors won Game 7 on the road against the Kings on Sunday. Given all of the emotions that come with a Game 7, this is a quick turnaround for them. The Lakers are more rested, having not played since Friday. That additional time off is huge for LeBron James, who has been battling with a foot injury since the regular season. This could be a letdown spot for the Warriors, so even if they pull out a victory, I think the Lakers keep things close enough to cover.
The Warriors got past the Kings despite Klay Thompson not having a great series. He was 26/73 (35.6%) from three, below his season average of 41.2%, and made five in only three of the seven games. And that was against a Sacramento team that's much worse defensively than the Lakers. A Lakers team that held Thompson to only 32.5% shooting from three in 114 minutes this season. Klay didn't hit more than four threes against the Lakers in any of the four games.
Anthony Davis has proven to be the zig-zag theory in the NBA playoffs. His total PAR by game has been 37-25-50-25-51-31. So he's do for a big game tonight! All right, so it's not that simple. More than anything I'm simply expecting Davis to have a much better performance against Kevon Looney than Sacramento's Domantas Sabonis did because Davis is a much better player, and won't try to bang down low with him. Win or lose, I expect this to be a big series for Anthony Davis.
The Lakers moved Austin Reaves into the starting five towards the end of March and he has remained there ever since. He has seen a ton of playing time in the playoffs, averaging 37 minutes over six games. That helped him generate at least nine combined rebounds and assists four times. The two games that he failed to reach that threshold, he had seven and eight combined, respectively. The Lakers are the more well-rested team and I think that helps them keep this game close, so Reaves should again play enough to reach this over.
The Lakers have been off since Friday, which is an advantage, but they were quite bad offensively in their final two road games in Round 1. We all know how dominant the Warriors have been at home, although the Kings did surprisingly win Game 6 in San Francisco. Golden State has such a massive advantage in the backcourt here as I expect Steph Curry and Klay Thompson to eat former teammate D'Angelo Russell's lunch. Kevon Looney can at least neutralize Anthony Davis on the boards.
