Cleveland is averaging just 94 PPG through three games of this series. Not good. Caris LeVert was inserted into the starting lineup in game two and responded by scoring 24 points and logging 40 minutes. He played 35 minutes in game three while scoring 17 points. He is one of only three players on the Cavs roster who is capable of creating his own shot and with Darius Garland struggling and New York doubling Donovan Mitchell, LeVert should have no shortage of opportunities. He also has Jalen Brunson guarding him and that is a matchup LeVert can win.
Cleveland laid an egg on the road in Game 3, shooting 39% from the field, and at no time did it have any kind of momentum. It was an uphill battle for the Cavaliers from the opening tip. I expect them to shoot better in this game, but they've had issues on the road all season, and now it’s biting them when it matters most. Expect the Knicks to cover.
The Knicks dominated Game 3 at home, holding the Cavaliers to 79 points in a 20-point blowout. Their defense continues to lead the way, holding the Cavaliers to under 100 points in two of the three games. The Cavaliers went just 20-21 on the road during the regular season, and the electric atmosphere at The Garden is a huge advantage for the Knicks. I expect the Knicks to take care of business on their home floor and earn another win to take a 3-1 series.
This series looks straight out of the late 80s/early 90s and would make both Jeff Van Gundy and Pat Riley proud. These teams have yet to combine for over 200 points in game and neither team and the Knicks are shooting just 40% in the series. Julius Randle has struggled and has yet to eclipse 22 points while shooting 32.7% from the field. This isn't a big surprise considering he is being guarded by Evan Mobley who is one of the NBA's premiere defenders and he has the luxury of Jarrett Allen patrolling the paint behind him. Randle has appeared in eight career playoff games and has yet to score 24 points and just is not the same player that he is in the regular season.
Julius Randle has yet to clear 23.5 points in this series. With the slow pace and his particular matchup, I like him to stay Under in Game 4 as well. Evan Mobley has guarded Randle for 22:52 in the series, holding him to 7 of 31 from the field, including 3 of 14 from deep. The 6-11 Mobley is showing why he finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
Considering how good the Knicks have looked in two of the three games and off a dominant 99-79 home win in Game 3, I'm not sure why this ML is so low. Cavs guard Darius Garland left the game for a time on Friday in the fourth quarter after hurting his ankle when he stepped on a photographer behind the basket. Perhaps that's a bit of an issue for Game 4. This is just a bad matchup for Cleveland and I believe it ends in six.
