The Dodgers have gone over the total in seven of the last eight games and they've got two pitchers up that are primed to give up a lot of runs and get this game over. Walker Buehler is on the mound and he's given up lots of runs. In 10 straight games they've gone over when Buehler starts. Clarke Schmidt will find himself in the same pattern for four or five innings. I would kind of favor the Yankees in the game but the price is too high so I’ll just stick to the over.
Walker Buehler has not pitched since Oct. 16 and he's facing a desperate Yankees team on the road. Buehler has not gone more than 5.1 innings in any of his last four starts; I'm betting against him completing five innings Monday. Buehler posted a 5.38 ERA in his return from Tommy John surgery, including allowing 16 homers in 16 starts. Buehler did toss four scoreless innings against the Mets in the NLCS, but it took him 90 pitches. Look for the Yankees to work the count and generate enough baserunners to get Buehler pulled in the 4th or 5th, as the Dodgers do not hesitate to go to their deep bullpen.
It needs to be 1978 again for the Yankees if they want to get back into this World Series. Way back then, the Dodgers took a similar 2-0 lead into to the Bronx for Game 3 before the Yanks turned the tables to win all three, then putting the hammer down on LA in Game 6 when Reggie Jackson provided the exclamation point. The pressure is on Clarke Schmidt to give NY a chance, and he was mostly serviceable this season with a 2.85 ERA, though he usually tops at five innings and Aaron Boone needs his bullpen ready. The Yankee batters (especially Aaron Judge) can do their part by simply being a bit more patient vs. Walker Buehler. Play Yankees on Run Line (-1)
The New York Yankees return home looking for a win to get back in the World Series. Clark Schmidt has held three Dodgers (Kiki Hernandez, Teoscar Hernandez, and Shohei Ohtani) to a .154 batting average in 13 at-bats. The rest of the Dodgers have not faced Schmidt. I don’t believe Ohtani is healthy, but he is an incredible talent. Walker Buehler has yet to pitch at Yankee Stadium in his career, and the Bronx Bombers are familiar with all of LA’s high-leverage bullpen arms. Teams returning home down 0-2 in the World Series have historically proven to be a profitable bet.
I was curious whether the books would put out an immediate Game 3 line because of Shohei Ohtani's shoulder injury suffered in Game 2. Needless to say, this would go up significantly if he's out. As a baseball fan, I sure hope not, but we have to jump the line just in case. The Yanks obviously will be desperate anyways and the unpredictable Walker Buehler is on the mound for L.A.
