The Yankees have beaten the Twins four straight times with the last three staying under. It was a sweep in May on the 14th, 15th, and 16th. All three under. Twins have won five out of seven. The Yankees started another win streak on the road and have won five straight. On Tuesday they'll be at home with Luis Gil pitching who has won six starts in a row allowing three runs total in those six starts. Bailey Ober has lost two of his last three starts allowing six runs and five runs in the losses. Yankees to win.
This number is climbing a and may even drop to 6.5. Gil will have to get over 40% of his outs via strikeout to eclipse this number and Minnesota is not nearly the K band over the last month.
We'd rather take up skydiving than go against the Yankees at the moment, considering how they improved to an AL (and MLB)-best 42-19 after a weekend sweep in San Francisco. (The Phils subsequently leveled at 42-19 with their win last night over the Brewers). This Run Line price also doesn't look bad with Luis Gil on the mound after he posted a microscopic 0.70 ERA in six May starts, all of those Yankees wins. No reason to shy away from going against the Twins' big Bailey Ober, who has cooled considerably in his last three starts while posting a 7.64 ERA during that bumpy span. Play Yankees on Run Line
Despite unsuccessfully fading Luis Gil numerous times this season, I am undeterred and going right back to the proverbial well. First and foremost this is simply a big number for Gil and he has to essentially be flawless to go over, and to his credit he has been his previous three starts, Gil surrendered just 2 ER and 8 hits over 20.1 IP. Gil will face a Twins team who at first glance appear to be a soft matchup, however their season long stats do not reflect how stingy they are presently. Since May 1st Minnesota possesses the 8th lowest K Rate, compared to 11th on the season.
Luis Gil is virtually unhittable these days, with an ERA+ of 201, 5th best in all of MLB. He is oozing confidence and carving up lineups. NYY fresh with an off day after travel back east and Soto and Judge are locked in. NYY 7-3 on run line last 10 at home. Bailey Ober had a 5.46 ERA in May, allowing 7 HR in 31 1/3 IP. Ober's ground ball rate is shrinking and his line drive rate it soaring. Not a good combination vs this group in the Bronx. Ober struggles outside of his massive home stadium (5.52 ERA).
The Twins will get a lot better offensively Tuesday with the activation off the injured list of Royce Lewis, the former No. 1 overall pick, but you would have known that already if you read today's premium newsletter. Sign up! May's AL Pitcher and Rookie of the Month Luis Gil has been historically good for the Yankees and it can't possibly continue much longer, but NYY is rolling and 18-8 at home. This is the team's first game at Yankee Stadium since May 23 and usually those first games back off a long road trip are a success for the good clubs.
