Kevin Gausman dealt with shoulder fatigue this spring, his velocity is down, and he enters this home start with an 11.57 ERA. Look for the Yankees to avoid the sweep behind Marcus Stroman, who tossed six scoreless innings against Toronto on April 5.
New York has lost its last three games. The Blue Jays send out Kevin Gausman who has allowed 11 earned runs in his last five innings. Toronto has already seen Marcus Stroman, who only allowed three hits in their first meeting. Soto, Judge, Stanton, and Torres have had success in their careers against Gausman and will look to take advantage of his struggling form to avoid to the sweep.
We can argue about who has had the more sluggish start - Aaron Judge or Kevin Gausman. But I am buying the bump with the giant slugger. He owns Gausman throughout his career, the ball carries well in the newly-compressed SkyDome and Judge is overdue for a breakout game. I expect the Yanks to get to Gausman early, taking some of the heat off Judge. Getting plus money for this guy to hit a sac fly against a struggling starter who hasn't look right since spring training seems plenty rich enough to me
Yankees lost on Tuesday to make it 4 in a row. Looking to avoid a serious slide here before an off day and heading to Tampa Bay, I think the Yankees find a way to win this one. Toronto has used up a fair amount of the bullpen but the Yankees have saved Clay Holmes and Ian Hamilton the last two days in the bullpen, making both surely available for this one. The Yankees' bats also started waking up late in this game tonight and Gausman hasn't looked himself yet.
I played New York +100 on SuperBook. I make the Yankees 54 percent winners in this matchup with Stroman vs. Gausman, which implies a moneyline price of -117. I have major concerns about the barrel rate on Gausman's fastball, which is down in velocity early this season.
Toronto looks like a Frankenstein team yet again with another manager who will get whacked midseason. Vlad and Bichette off to pedestrian starts again, the pen has key injuries and Kevin Gausman ain't pitching like an ace and was backed up in spring training and I smell an IL stint ahead. Middle of Yanks lineup owns him (Soto, Judge and Stanton) and this is a bad ballpark for this guy without his best stuff. used to getting a lot of run support - not anymore
