This is a fade of DWeathers and the fact the Marlins lineup is a bit depleted. The fish will play better, but let’s pay to find out if that’s tonight. A bit worried we all seem to like this one but let’s make it a craps table…..all cheering together
The Marlins are 3-14 and now have to face Jordan Hicks, who's been dominant with a 0.83 WHIP. He also is pitching on an extra day of rest. Miami owns the NL's worst offense and is playing without RBI leader Jake Burger, who was put on the DL. Miami lefty Ryan Weathers has a 2.57 ERA but an expected ERA of 6.19. Facing a projected eight right-handed batters, look for Weathers to struggle in another Marlins' loss.
The Marlins possess the worst record in baseball having gone a dismal 3-14, including 1-10 at home. The Giants haven't been that bad but have struggled out the gate to the tune of 7-10, they find themselves only 3 games back in a competitive NL West. Left handed pitcher Ryan Weathers is on the bump for Miami and he appears to be significant regression candidate, despite his hot start. The Giants have hit lefties well this year, and sport an OPS of .785, good for 5th best in the league. Jordan Hicks will get the start for the Giants and Hicks has pitched extremely well through three starts. I think he'll find success today and Giants get the win.
Ryan Weathers is on the mound for the Marlins, and it's a great matchup for Jorge Soler, who has always been much better against lefties than righties in his career and delivered a 1.080 OPS in 135 plate appearances against southpaws last year. He's picking things up at the plate this year with a four-game hit streak that includes two extra-base hits. He's also playing in a familiar park after two seasons with the Marlins. I like his chances of getting an extra-base hit today.
Ryan Weathers has limited the damage in his three starts, but his 6.91 xERA and 5.46 xFIP say more negative regression is coming. He's been barreled up at a 9.2% rate with a 93 mph exit velo. The problem is his FB is not good and he throws it more than 50% of the time. The Giants are a Top-10 offense against LHP with a low 17% K rate. Jordan Hicks rates among the top 10% of starters this season after dropping the velo but adding more horizontal movement to his sinker.
