Understanding Public and Money
Expert Picks
It might not be the best of the number, but there's still upside in banking on a defensive slugfest. Yes, the Stars could be without Chris Tanev on the back end. However, in a one-game sample, I think everyone adds a little more to their plate. Edmonton has done a tremendous job insulating Skinner of late; especially on the road. Combine that with two teams really struggling to get things going with the man advantage and this has all the makings of a low-event playoff game, given the importance of Game 5 when a series is tied 2-2. Take the Under.
Just when it looks like this series might be tipping in one direction, it falls back the other way after the Oilers rallied from two goals down to level matters at two games apiece on Wednesday. Those were rare defensive breakdowns by the Stars, however, and even rarer power-play breakdowns too, allowing a short-handed goal. Speaking of power plays, Dallas hasn't scored on one yet this series as the Edmonton penalty kill has worked 23 times in a row. That's bound to end soon (we think), as the Stars have too many scorers on the ice to continue misfiring. Pete DeBoer also gets the last line shifts at home to put his proper matchups on Connor McDavid's line. Play Stars on Money Line
You want FanDuel either way on your total play in my opinion because it's the only book of ours that has 5.5 while the rest have 6 -- and the Under 5.5 is plus-money if you still want to go that way. The Stars might be without one of their top defensemen in Chris Tanev, who is among the blocked shots leaders in the playoffs. That's potentially X more shots to reach Jake Oettinger, who has been worse at home in the postseason. We may need an empty netter with the score 3-2 late to win here but hopefully not.
The Stars should be able to respond here following Game 4's loss to Edmonton as the series heads back to Dallas for a pivotal Game 5. Dallas is 5-0 following their past five losses this postseason, out-shooting their opponents in all but one of those games. Expect the Stars to come out aggressive and take control of this series on Friday.
