Understanding Public and Money
Expert Picks
Hockey fans have gotten spoiled during the conference finals. This series has been a true heavyweight fight with the last three games being decided in overtime. When it comes to Game 5, I'm playing the Rangers on the moneyline. New York has been outstanding at the Garden, and I like the Rangers to bounce back from a crushing Game 4 loss in Florida. Getting the Rangers for this price at home is too good to pass up.
I truly have no idea who wins this game. All I care about is being covered if it goes to overtime for a fourth straight time -- which would be extremely rare in the NHL playoffs. And as a fan, I so hope it does. The Panthers are dominating in the offensive zone, but I trust Igor Shesterkin slightly more than Sergei Bobrovsky. Rangers star forwards Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad are both hugely overdue to score or, shoot, even have a point. Neither does in the series.
Maybe home-ice edge is something that exists just in theory in the Stanley Cup playoffs. This spring, road teams have won more often than home teams, and in the two conference finals thru Game 4, each series has been split 2-2 between home and road. No matter, it's no negative to play at home, and we wonder why the Rangers have to be made a slight underdog at MSG. This series has been conducted on the edge, the Rangers finally got a power-play goal in Game 4, and Alexis Lafreniere has reappeared with three goals across the past two games. Three straight games have gone into OT in this series, and the Rangers are 4-1 in OT in the playoffs. Play Rangers on Money Line
These two teams are giving us an absolute treat of an Eastern Conference Final, with three straight meetings going to overtime. We've reached an all-important Game 5 with the series dead-locked at two games apiece, and I think that should lead to a tighter game on the whole. Three of four meetings have gone under, including both in New York, so jump on under 5.5 here with Shesterkin and Bobrovsky headlining the night between the pipes.
