Has any quarterback in NFL annals started a game two days after joining a team? Could happen with Baker Mayfield and the Rams. The fact that he is being considered suggests backup John Wolford is iffy, which would make the only other option third-stringer Bryce Perkins. All that aside, the Raiders are rumbling, with three consecutive straight-up wins behind the excellence of RB Josh Jacobs. Though banged up, he is expected to play. Short turn-arounds are especially tough for injury-bitten teams like L.A.'s.
The Raiders have embarked on a stunning about-face, winning three straight after a loss to the turmoil-laden Colts seemingly threatened to end Josh McDaniels' tenure with the club before even one season was completed. Conversely, the Rams have experienced a cherry bomb of a Super Bowl hangover, with injuries and roster turnover plaguing a club that went all-in to win the Lombardi trophy last year. Even so, they finally showed some fight last week against Seattle and this is a tough spot in which to back the Raiders, who have failed to cover the last five meetings in this series. Take the points.
The Raiders have now won three straight as they try to keep their playoff hopes alive, and this line is interesting in that it's less than what the Seahawks were laying in L.A. last week, even though that matchup featured John Wolford at QB and this could have Bryce Perkins under center with Wolford suffering a neck injury. Perkins getting limited time to prepare on the short week matters, and last week may have been a last gasp for the Rams this season in terms of effort. Even if not, the Raiders proved two weeks ago they're better than Seattle, so why isn't this line in that 7-8 point range? Think Las Vegas is a nice value here.
