One benefit from never picking Dolphins games is that I’m able to evaluate their opponents against what I feel is a known quantity. And seeing what Miami did to Cleveland last week in a 22-point shellacking simply does not bode well for the Browns against a Bills team with similar attributes. Josh Allen has been relatively awful recently with back-breaking red zone interceptions and boneheaded decision making. Buffalo has also played defenses able to capitalize on those miscues, which is not the same here for Cleveland’s woeful unit. The recent blown covers by the Bills are infuriating, yet this is not a team poised to lose three straight, even if it has been jostled away from home for a neutral-site game due to weather. I’ll play the Bills in a teaser (likely with the 49ers) with a full bet but will also put a half bet on the side here. The number seems to be dropping a bit, so wait until kickoff to see if you can get -7.
Home-field advantage is supposed to be worth at least two points, but the spread has stayed locked in as the game was moved from Buffalo to neutral Detroit. What’s more, the Bills canceled practice Thursday and Friday, then went to great efforts to get out of town on Saturday. Not to be overlooked is Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski’s 7-1 record against the spread when his team receives a minimum of 3.5 points, according to ESPN. The supremely gifted Bills have been shaky of late and seem headed into a scary game, given the week’s distractions.
Moving indoors to Detroit certainly favors the Bills and their more explosive offense, but the injury report brought good news for Cleveland with the exception of starting corner Greg Newsome (concussion) being out. Tight end David Njoku could return after missing two games, and these two Cleveland stalwarts definitely will be back: Pro Bowl guard Wyatt Teller and linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. The Bills won't have two critical defenders: linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and defensive end Greg Rousseau. The Browns are coming off a blowout loss in Miami. I like them to bounce back -- similar to how they performed following a blowout loss to New England, when they covered in a 3-point loss at Baltimore. Take the points.
