This line shifted three full points overnight until before kickoff, which is immensely frustrating for your's truly but understandable given the wrong team was favored. While the Giants did show last week that they are in the midst of a turnaround under Brian Daboll, the Panthers have the weapons to take advantage of New York that Tennessee last week did not. Christian McCaffrey may wreak havoc on this linebacking corps.
This line has lost the opening value of Panthers +2.5, but Carolina is still the right side. If the Panthers had held on last week and the Giants hadn't, we'd probably be laying -2.5 with the Panthers. New York has improved no doubt, but Carolia has as well and boasts the better personnel.
The Giants put together an upset win in Week 1 where Daniel Jones was 17-for-21 passing, Saquon Barkley ran for 164 yards and the defense held Derrick Henry to under 4 yards per carry. So how was it only a one-point game? The Titans still had success in the passing game with Kyle Philips and Dontrell Hilliard, and the Panthers have God-mode versions of those players in D.J. Moore and Christian McCaffrey. The Giants are also banged up on defense with corner Aaron Robinson out and two edge rushers doubtful. I expect the Panthers to move the ball up and down the field here, and it might take another near-perfect effort from the Giants offense just to keep this close. If there's any step back from Daniel Jones, they should lose this game.
I love Brian Daboll and think he'll get dramatic improvement out of the Giants this season. But Sunday sets up well for the Panthers. Their injury report looks fairly clean, while the Giants lost starting corner Aaron Robinson (appendix surgery) and will be shorthanded at receiver. New York will elevate corner Fabian Moreau from the practice squad, which doesn't bode well against D.J. Moore, Robby Anderson and Baker Mayfield. Christian McCaffrey should gash the G-Men catching passes out of the backfield, as New York's linebackers were unable to stop the Titans' Dontrell Hilliard last week. Grab the points.
