While I'd normally wait until inactives come out to jump on a Sunday night game, the only direction this line is going is up. As such, it's worth jumping on the Chiefs now with Kansas City getting healthier and Baltimore seemingly set to miss a number of key players due to injury. These games have been incredible over the last couple of years with the home team not necessarily having an advantage due to the tremendous talent on both teams. Given the Chiefs are healthier and more confident coming in -- plus Patrick Mahomes has his perfect September record to maintain (11-0) -- I'll lay the hook.
The Ravens have always had a problem with the Chiefs and now they will have to do try to beat them without many key players, most notably Ronnie Stanley who is still not fully healthy after a season ending ankle injury last season. The Ravens allowed the highest percentage of pressures on dropbacks in week 1 and now their Offensive Line will be shorthanded. The Chiefs should be returning Tyrann Mathieu and Frank Clark, I just don’t see the Ravens keeping up with the Chiefs.
The Chiefs have won four straight against the Baltimore Ravens, not to mention Patrick Mahomes is a perfect 3-0 against them in his career...and that's when Baltimore has been at its peak. I have serious questions about the Ravens' offense and especially if they fall behind early in the game. Their defense isn't helping much either. Oh, and Patrick Mahomes in his career in the month of September is 11-0 with 35 touchdowns and zero interceptions. I'll eat the juice here in case something wild happens and a hook is involved, but Kansas City wins this game.
The Chiefs have had the Ravens' number. Since Andy Reid took over as coach, Kansas City is 4-0 against Baltimore, winning by 10.5 points per game. Part of the reason is the Ravens' preference to play man defense; that just doesn't work against the Chiefs receivers, especially Tyreek Hill. I think Hill and Patrick Mahomes have another big game against a Baltimore team playing on a short week.
Already decimated by injury entering Week 1, the Ravens now will be without All-Pro left tackle Ronnie Stanley for a while. Top wideout Marquise Brown, defensive end Derek Wolfe, and cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey, Jimmy Smith and Chris Westry are all in question. Wow. The Chiefs not only are healthy, they are getting back two of their top defenders back in end Frank Clark and safety Tyrann Mathieu. Both were held out of Week 1 for precautionary reasons. I just can't give the Ravens 3.5 points at home, though, so I'll take the KC moneyline. In the regular season, Lamar Jackson as a starting QB is 0-3 against the Chiefs and 30-5 against everyone else
Tyrann Mathieu will make his season debut for the Chiefs, and Frank Clark has a strong chance to play too. The banged-up Ravens worked out four cornerbacks Tuesday -- not a good sign when you're getting ready to face Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes loves to face the blitzing Ravens: he's 3-0 against them with a 116.2 passer rating, throwing for 1,136 yards and nine touchdowns against one interception. Lay the points.
