Buffalo's defense ranks third in the league in yards allowed per play while Pittsburgh's is fifth. The Bills are 5-0 ATS on the road this season. Steelers QB Devlin Hodges will have a tougher time against Buffalo's defense than he did versus Cleveland and Arizona.
No team is less appreciated than Buffalo, which has not lost ATS on the road since late last season. With all the hoopla surrounding Pittsburgh QB Devlin “Duck” Hodges, Buffalo’s Josh Allen is superior - even if he lacks a catchy nickname. Hodges will sorely miss WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee). The Steelers also are trending ATS, but an end to Duck Mania looms against the Bills' rugged defense.
Two excellent defenses face off in Pittsburgh as the Steelers welcome the Bills. Devlin Hodges has been a revelation, but he has essentially been playing with reserve skill players. He'll welcome the potential return of both JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Conner, which would help the offense tremendously. We're still waiting for Josh Allen to consistently hit the deep ball, but he won't get many opportunities to do it against this defense.
Teams don't play well the week after they face the Ravens, who are such a physical opponent. The Steelers are giving up 14.5 points per game over their last five, they're getting key offensive weapons back, and Devlin 'Duck' Hodges is playing pretty decently. This is a huge game for the Steelers and they're at home.
I have some worries about the Steelers offense, as they appeared not to trust Devlin Hodges attacking downfield against a bad Arizona secondary. If you're willing to self-limit your offensive game plan, a good defense like that in Buffalo will make you pay. The elite Steelers defense thrives on turnovers, but Buffalo has done a great job protecting the ball with just three giveaways in its last eight games. Though this is in danger of being a look-ahead spot for the Bills with the Patriots on deck, I trust their coaching staff to keep the team focused and get this win.
