The lack of faith in the Eagles, who have lost three straight, is understandable. But it's the strong faith in the two-win Giants, who have received the majority of support at the sportsbooks, that is puzzling. They have lost eight straight, with five of the defeats coming by at least a touchdown. The return of Eli Manning is unlikely to make much of a difference. Even though last week's loss to Miami was inexcusable, the Eagles did see their offense get a boost from a healthy Alshon Jeffrey. Carson Wentz threw for 310 yards and three TDs.
The Giants are awful at defending the pass and the Eagles aren’t great at it either, but the weather could play a big factor here. It has been raining in Philly all day and there’s a 90% chance it’ll continue (along with 13 mph wind) from kickoff until 10 p.m. ET, when it becomes a 75% chance. These teams can both stop the run (Eagles are 8th in DVOA, Giants 11th), so this has the makings of a low-scoring game. Grab the Under.
The Giants have lost eight straight and will have Eli Manning starting tonight. Their only covers over the losing streak have been on the road. They’re 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games, most of which were engineered with Manning under center. He’s light on tight-ends tonight but should have Golden Tate playing. There is rain to deal with also. The Eagles are 0-3 ATS in their last three and come off a horrible loss at Miami as 10.5-point favorites. I’ll take the points and roll with a fresh Eli.
The Eagles just showed they shouldn't be laying a ton of points in their loss to Miami, and while the market inflated the line a little after Eli Manning was announced as the starter, is he really a downgrade from what Daniel Jones has been? Then you look at the injury report and see the Giants might actually have a full stable of weapons for the first time all year. That'll help them score points on an Eagles secondary that just got smoked by Ryan Fitzpatrick. Even if the Eagles have a strong second-half lead, the Giants should be able to get through the backdoor, and the energy surrounding the team with Eli back under center could make this a close one.
Yes the Eagles are desperate, but they've been in desperation mode for a while now and it hasn't translated to a win. They should win this one against the lowly Giants, but New York will give maximum effort, trying to send off Eli Manning with a win. At this point of a lost season, the shift from Daniel Jones (21 turnovers in 11 games) to Manning might benefit the Giants. Grab the points with a Giants team that's 9-2 ATS in its last 11 as a road dog.
