Getting the hook is too much to resist. Not only has the Jets' offense come around, but their secondary is much improved thanks to the tremendous play of rookie corner Bless Austin. Grab the points.
The Jets have posted back-to-back wins over the New York Giants and Washington, scoring 34 points in both. Their run defense is their strength and will force Oakland to become one-dimensional. Oakland may be 6-4, but it is getting outscored by an average of 2.5 points per game. Oakland's secondary ranks 28th in the NFL.
The Jets offense is back on track, with the team scoring 34 points in back-to-back games. While those performances have come against bad defenses, they're facing another one this week in the Raiders, who rank 29th in points per drive on a defense that has struggled on the road. Oakland has won three straight but none of those wins were that convincing and all came at home. The Raiders offense has success by leaning on the rushing attack (eighth in the NFL in rush attempts, 28th in pass attempts), but now has to face a team that allows a league-best 3.0 yards per carry. Throw in a lookahead angle with the Raiders facing the Chiefs next week, and it's a bad spot for them.
The Jets' defense against the run is excellent, which will be crucial in this matchup versus Josh Jacobs. Sam Darnold has had two good games in a row, he's got capable receivers in Robby Anderson and Jamison Crowder, and this will be tough for Oakland traveling east as a favorite in an early start. Take the points.
The Raiders find themselves in the thick of the AFC playoff race and face a New York team that has won back-to-back games. Oakland wasn't as crisp last week against Cincinnati in what I think was its wake-up call. The Jets have begun to play much better, but the Raiders are a step up in class, so this will be an uphill climb for them.
