Beyond Melvin Gordon's holdout, the Chargers are missing Derwin James and Russell Okung. The latter is a blow to an offensive line that even with Okung was below average. Grab the points with Indy in a game that should go down to the wire.
Chargers RB Melvin Gordon is still holding out, and LA also is dealing with key injuries. Jacoby Brissett played well in the preseason and I think that carries over Sunday. Grab the points.
The tears in Indy over the retirement of QB Andrew Luck have dried, replaced by the comforting realization that Jacoby Brissett ranked among the league’s most capable backups. The Colts are in good hands. As for L.A., several key pieces are out: RB Melvin Gordon (holdout), OT Russell Okung (illness), S Derwin James (foot). The absent trio will be missed almost as much as Luck. The Chargers are notoriously slow starters, with three consecutive straight-up losses in openers. Not that QB Philip Rivers needed the work, but he took no snaps in the preseason and could be rusty.
People think the Colts are going to fall hard without Andrew Luck, but the 2019 roster is much better than the 2017 roster, and Jacoby Brissett is in a much better situation after practicing with the ones all offseason versus taking over as an inexperienced second-year player 10 days after being acquired. The Chargers have their own issues between Derwin James' injury and Russell Okung's absence, and they don't have a typical home-field advantage. I'm all over the Colts if we're getting a full touchdown.
