Understanding Public and Money
DraftKings. Myles Turner is poised to return to the lineup tonight after missing time with a neck injury. Averaging 15.1 points per game this season, he’s failed to clear this line in 30 of 46 games. And despite the paced up matchup, I don’t love this spot for Turner. The Pacers big man is under this line in 11/15 games against top 10 defenses (Memphis is 7th). In their matchup earlier this season, Turner was held to just 12 points, and shot 8 of 11 FGA from deep. While he’s capable of making threes, he’s historically struggled with his shot coming off prolonged rest.
I believe we're getting a discount on this combination line despite Ja Morant "only" averaging 32.4 PRA on the season. Morant got off to a slow start this year and dealt with various injuries that often resulted in limited minutes and I also believe it suppressed his statistics considering hes averaged 25+ PPG in three consecutive seasons. Ja has eclipsed this line in three of his previous four games prior to the All-Star break and he should be in line for 33-36 minutes in a game with a whopping 250 point total. I would also play this at 34.5.
We still sense something flighty about the Grizzlies. We wonder about All-Star break rumors of a possible Ja Morant offseason trade, and potential to have an unsettling impact on what has been a fractious roster. The Griz also cooled a bit before the break with heavy losses in two of three (vs. Clips and Thunder). The Pacers were in a bit of a funk the first meeting back on December 2 in the midst of a four-game skid when losing 136-121 at FedEx Forum. But Indiana turned things around in January and ran off a 12-2 SU stretch with most hands on deck, and Pascal Siakam having hit the break by leading the Pacers in scoring in three of four games. Play Pacers.
The Grizz ran out of steam on a back-to-back before the break but they were one of our favorite teams to bet in the first half and remain so now. They covered 11 of 16 heading into the break and seven of their last nine on the road. They are 16-4 ATS vs. the East and beat the Pacers by 15 earlier this season. Too deep and too strong for Indiana and a rare team that can run Pacers out of the gym. Boston and Memphis are the only teams in NBA with top seven D and O rating. Pacers have covered just one of their last seven games.
