The Suns rank 23rd in defensive rating and will be without elite rookie defender Ryan Dunn, who is out with an ankle injury. Clippers leading scorer Norman Powell is coming off a 33-point outburst vs. Milwaukee and has cleared this prop total in five straight games and eight of nine. Although Kawhi Leonard is playing, he is currently limited to 24 minutes.
I’ve written about Norman Powell so many times this season, I’m running out of new ways to explain how great he’s been from a prop perspective. Even with Kawhi Leonard back in the fold, he’s cleared this line in 5/7, with the two misses in blowout wins. Leonard is still getting his feet under him, and has been strictly limited to 24 minutes of late. Even in a scenario where that increases to 27-28, I still love this spot for Powell, who has thrived playing against softer coverages with Leonard on the court. The Suns rank 22nd against above the break threes (38% of Powell’s points) - against teams ranking outside the top 12, Powell has cleared this line in 16/21 games.
The Clippers had a very minor blip with like 4 starters out but mostly they just cover. 7-1 ATS within the division, 18-6-1 with one day off between games, 17-8 ATS after a win (very sharp beating soaring Bucks Sat). Suns are 4-5 ATS in the division, 6-15-1 at home, 5-10 ATS as a dog. They've covered just 2 of last 8 overall and 1-5 ATS at home since Christmas. These teams haven't met since October and much has changed since then. Not sure trade deadline will save staggering Suns. Clippers showing a lot of hunger and verve lately.
