Lines tend to reflect stars being out too much. Stephen Curry is out, but the Warriors are still very deep and will recover from a poor showing against the Clippers to take out the Pelicans. I'll take the couple points as a little insurance.
Andrew Wiggins has been ruled out on top of Steph Curry and De'Anthony Melton for Golden State, but apparently Wiggins possibly sitting was baked in because this ML didn't rise all that much (about 10 cents) -- Curry and Melton were ruled out yesterday. This is the live number at FanDuel post-Wiggins news (DraftKings has -130).
This is the definition of a buy low spot for Zion Williamson after two consecutive lackluster performances against the Blazers. Zion is shooting just 25% which is well below his 59% career average. After watching Zion’s performances, he looks fine to me and I’m more than happy to take the discount on one of the leagues most efficient scorers. He also gets a favorable matchup against a Golden State team that so far is averaging a robust 108.2 possessions per game, good for 5th most in the league.
The Pelicans had to play in Portland two games in a row ending on Saturday, they won one and lost the other and didn't cover either game because the spreads were so high. The thing I noticed about the scoring was the top three shooters in the game didn't shoot 50%. Zion Williamson shot three of 12. Last season the Pelicans won the last two times they faced the Warriors at Golden State. The Warriors come in with the No. 1 defense in the NBA but no Steph Curry tonight. The Warriors are also in the top five in every offensive category, but again, there will be no Steph Curry tonight. I like the Pelicans to win this game.
