I think the Game 1 loss woke up a Grizzlies squad that had been waiting aimlessly for two weeks for the playoffs with nothing to gain. Minnesota won both home meetings during the regular season. Memphis forced 19 turnovers in the last game and took over with its intense defense. The real Grizzlies are back. Take them to cover Game 3.
Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins has decided that Steven Adams just isn't a good matchup at center against the Timberwolves and is using the likes of Xavier Tillman, Jaren Jackson Jr. and others to deal with Karl-Anthony Towns. In the Grizz's Game 2 rout, Adams was in immediate foul trouble and only played three minutes. Tillman (a Sparty!) was plus-5 in 21 minutes. Meanwhile, D'Angelo Russell has picked a bad time to go into a funk for Minnesota. The Grizz were 26-15 on the road this season.
The Grizzlies showed why they are a No. 2 seed in their runaway victory over Minnesota in Game 2. Now they must accomplish what they were unable to do during the regular season - defeat the Timberwolves on the road. Look for the young Grizzlies to exhibit the moxie they displayed throughout the entire campaign. A deep roster and the ability to continuously get to the free-throw line will trump the NBA zig-zag theory. Take Memphis.
The Grizzlies went into this series as heavy favorites, but surprisingly lost Game 1. They rebounded in Game 2, blowing out the Timberwolves by 28 points. A key adjustment that they made in Game 2 was only playing Steven Adams three minutes. The Timberwolves play at a fast pace and have big men who often play outside the three-point line, so this is not a good matchup for him. With the expectation that they continue to play Brandon Clarke, and maybe even Xavier Tillman, more, I think the Grizzlies will re-take homecourt advantage with a win in this game.
