May threw five innings of one-hit, six strikeout baseball against the Braves. He’ll now make his first road start against the Nationals, who’ve struck out at a league-high rate of 30.2% thus far. The lineup is favorable today, with CJ Abrams on the bench, giving May six plus strikeout targets.

The weather looks rather icky in D.C. with rain and chilly temps (slight winds blowing in), but they probably will get this in. Two good young pitchers in LA's Dustin May (0.00 ERA in one 2025 start) and Washington's MacKenzie Gore (2.45 ERA in two starts this year). Maybe a flat spot for LA off a big series (well, as big a series can get in April) over the weekend in Philly.

We thought Corbin Burnes would slice through this swing-and-miss heavy Nats lineup yesterday ... and we were quite wrong. But that doesn't change the nature of their composition and May has filthy stuff. He got 11 swing and miss and 6 Ks in his first start back from injury, simplifying his delivery. I expect it to play well on a cold night in DC. Nats have struck out 95 times through 9 games.

The Nats have scored 34 runs through 9 games, and they strike out a ton. Dustin May was absolutely filthy in his first start back and I like his swing-and-miss stuff vs this young Nats lineup. WSH stole a series vs AZ but good luck vs a Dodgers team coming off a tough series loss at Philly. MacKenzie Gore has come into his own but the Nats' pen has a 6.46 ERA and 1.8 WHIP; putting that many Dodgers on base will bring dire consequences. Teoscar Hernandez, Max Muncy, Michael Conforto and Keke Hernandez all have HRs off Gore in a very limited sample size. Most Dodgers wins are by 2+ runs but with a streak of weird beats I am playing it safer.
