Understanding Public and Money
Expert Picks
The public is all over Los Angeles and for good reason. The Braves are now without Jurickson Profar who was suspended for using PEDs. They’re also still without Ronald Acuna Jr. and their offense has only scored eight total runs to begin the season. Chris Sale has been impressive against this lineup in this career, holding them to a .219 average. However, Atlanta is hitting .036 as a team to begin the season and the Dodgers have plenty of hitters to get the victory at home.
At first glance this matchup seems to provide some hope for the Braves...except Atlanta has looked hopeless thus far. Five games, five losses, and the Braves haven't looked ready to play at all against either the Padres or Dodgers, especially listless at the plate. Chris Sale vs. Dustin May might seem to be edge Braves, but Sale wasn't so sharp last Thursday at San Diego, allowing three runs and six hits in just 5 IP, and the offense having scored just eight runs in five games. Sale might need to throw a no-hitter to give his team a chance. The Dodgers are scoring runs more freely and are excited about the return of May, who hasn't pitched since 2023. Play Dodgers on Money Line.
The Braves have started the season 0-5, and they have to play the Dodgers again who beat them last night. The worst part about the Braves is that they're not hitting. They've only scored one run in their last three games, and it doesn't help that Jurickson Profar is suspended for 80 games. The Dodgers, meanwhile, haven't had Freddie Freeman for three games, but they're still 6-0. Dustin May makes his first start after missing all of last year with Tommy John surgery, and he'll face Chris Sale, who gave up three runs in five innings against the Padres. Look for Sale to pitch well for five innings, and then the Dodgers will come alive against the bullpen. Dodgers to win.
I mean, it's Chris Sale on the mound for the Braves, but Atlanta cannot hit at all right now -- that Jurickson Profar suspension sure doesn't help matters -- and I promise you Sale ain't going more than 7 innings (maybe not more than 6) this early even if he's throwing a perfect game. It's the first start in the Show since 2023 for former touted Dodgers prospect Dustin May. "Gingergaard" has shown signs of dominance and simply needs to out of the operating room. He was 4-1 with a 2.63 ERA and 0.94 ERA two years ago in nine starts and looked good this spring. Getting the Dodgers this cheap at home is a must-play.
