Nick Pivetta went 0-3 with a 6.86 ERA versus the Rays last season, and now he's facing a Tampa Bay offense that's reached another level. The Rays have belted an MLB-leading 24 home runs during their dominant 9-0 start. Pivetta wasn't particularly sharp in his only start this season, walking three and allowing three runs (one earned) over five innings vs. Pittsburgh. Back the Rays to stay focused and keep rolling as they anticipate their first real challenge of the season.
The Rays have to lose at some point, but it sure doesn't look like Monday. They had a day off before barely breaking a sweat in a weekend sweep of the A's and didn't have to travel. Now they'll face Nick Pivetta of the Red Sox, whom they battered for a 6.86 ERA and 1.68 WHIP in four starts last season. Randy Arozarena and Brandon Lowe in particular have great history against him, so check their props. The Red Sox were 1-9 in The Trop last year, too. In fact, I like another big Rays win, so let's grab that run line (-1.5, +135).
When I see Jalen Beeks starting for an inning or two to give way to Josh Fleming, I’m not all concerned about the Rays. It’s the streak that I’m betting on. Winning teams just do everything better and more fluidly. The Red Sox are 17-5 the last three seasons at Tampa Bay, I’m on the Rays to win.
The Rays are not just 9-0 SU but also 9-0 on the runline. They have played three dregs, though, in Detroit, Washington and Oakland. I am going to pre-play this Monday ML because I highly doubt that Boston's best hitter in the early going, Adam Duvall, will be in the lineup so this should only rise. He hurt his wrist attempting to make a catch in Sunday's game and left. Didn't look good. Duvall might be the AL MVP thus far, so it's a big deal. It's Nick Pivetta on the mound for the Sox, and the Rays really had his number in 2022.
