Thursday was terrific and Friday was brutal. Wish I knew why. Guess retiring to Aruba will have to wait on Bitcoin. I'd be doing this if I was a multi-millionaire, who am I kidding? #needalifebutenjoyit. Actually didn't do too bad personally because I loved Boise State football so much and went wife's Botox fund big on them, but rare those "locks" come around. Don't think I got anything else right. I'm not sure I've gotten ASU right all season, either, but I have to fade the Sun Devils minus leading receiver Jordyn Tyson (75-1101-10). My biggest worry? ISU looks so good that the Bears hire Matt Campbell. That would be so them. Skip on Jim Harbaugh in 2024 and hire Matt Campbell in 2025.
For a team like ASU, that fed off emotion and adrenaline every week, the dynamics aren't going to be the same in what will feel like a cavernous AT&T Stadium. We suspect Iowa State might have the formula to slow down Cam Skattebo with another rock-ribbed Jon Heacock defense that allowed under 20 ppg, and despite yielding more yardage than usual on the ground this season should still have the scheme and physicality to limit Skattebo's damage. We also like the way Cyclones QB Rocco Becht has had to pull a few games out of the fire this season, including a couple of those on the road (such as high-pressure wins at Iowa and Utah). Play Iowa State (at Arlington, Tx)
The Big 12 championship game is at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and features two teams that are 10-2, Iowa State and Arizona State. Both teams have a common loss to Texas Tech. The biggest difference between the two is that ASU covered 10 of their 12 games and ISU was 7-5 against spread. ASU will be without their top receiver but ISU still has to stop Cam Skattebo who hasn't been derailed often with 17 touchdowns and 1,398 rushing yards as well as 35 catches from the backfield for 468 yards. You want to change your defense scheme to try and stop him but then you become vulnerable elsewhere. Hard to stop a tank. I'm on Arizona State to win.
Iowa State has the best scoring defense in the Big 12 (19.6 points per game allowed) while Arizona State isn’t far behind (21.5). In games where Matt Campbell-coached teams are underdogs, the under is 40-21-1. The Cyclones are awesome against the pass (156.9 yards per game allowed, third fewest nationally) but get crushed by the run. Cam Skattebo helps the Sun Devils control the clock and leads his team to a Fiesta Bowl berth. ASU 24, Iowa State 21.
