Is this an upset spot for Oklahoma? You bet. But do you know who else knows that? The Sooners, who've had had an extra week to prepare knowing Baylor is going to bring it Saturday. Oklahoma's offense has exploded since Caleb Williams took over, and while health has been an issue for OU, the off week has likely helped the team heal as well. If the Bears fall behind early, they may have a difficult time catching back up, even at home.
Baylor has covered the last three meetings with Oklahoma and the Sooners are just 1-4 ATS in their last five visits to Waco. Baylor has won and covered all five games played at home this season. I like the Bears' balanced offense to give the Oklahoma defense some trouble. Oklahoma has been ripe for an upset in all three of its away games. Take the points with Baylor.
I don't want to go against Lincoln Riley coming off a bye. The Sooners offense has yet to fully click this season, but the extra time off will have helped them refine it. Also, the Sooners defense is getting healthier in the secondary, which will likely improve their overall performance. Plus, TCU exposed some weaknesses in this Baylor defense last week that Oklahoma is more than capable of exploiting.
What we have here is a pair of elite offenses and a couple of average defenses, Baylor has scored at least 28 points in every game this season except against Oklahoma State, which has the best defense in the Big 12. Oklahoma has hit 50 in three of the four games in which freshman QB Caleb Williams has played. This game should see both teams in the 30s at least.
The Sooners and the Bears have elite offenses and they are both on fire. Four of the last five Sooners' games and six of the last eight Bears' games have gone Over the total. The Sooners are averaging a ridiculous 46.2 points over their last five games. The Bears average 36.3 points this season. This game will have fireworks from the start.
Oklahoma had a median of 6.1 yards per play in their first five games with Spencer Rattler at QB. Since Caleb Williams hit the field running, the Sooners have recorded an average of 8.7 median yards, which ranks first in the country. Baylor's high-powered offense is fifth in the nation. Oklahoma's defense ranks 90th, while the Bears are 52nd in yards allowed per play.
