ORANGE BOWL -- There's some value on the Cavaliers now that the spread has moved past this lofty key number. They managed nine wins and an ACC title game appearance and all four of their losses were to bowl-bound teams, including CFP finalist Clemson. Florida has the home-field advantage and a lot of momentum following a 10-win regular season that only saw losses to LSU and Georgia. But the Gators ar ea bit overvalued here and could be in trouble if they take rugged Virginia for granted.
ORANGE BOWL -- OK, taking a boatload of points with Virginia against Clemson did not work out. However, Florida is not an offensive juggernaut, and Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall’s teams usually cover when he is afforded extra time to prepare. Gators CB C.J. Henderson is bypassing this game with the NFL Draft in mind. WR/KR Joe Reed, the only Virginia player selected to the All-ACC team, is back after missing the Clemson debacle with an injury. He is a threat catching passes and returning kickoffs.
ORANGE BOWL -- I really like the Gators in this game. I thought they were one of the tougher teams in the SEC, let alone the East Division. They can run the ball, they play good defense and they have efficient QB play. Virginia does have a tremendous talent in QB Bryce Perkins, but at times, its offense seems a bit one-dimensional. Look for the Gators to make a statement in this one.
ORANGE BOWL -- We've seen it all year long with Virginia. When the Cavs run into a team with a strong front seven and a good pass rush, they struggle mightily. That was the case in losses to Notre Dame, Miami and Clemson. In Miami they'll be facing a Florida defense that ranks third nationally in sack rate. I don't know where Virginia's points come from.
ORANGE BOWL -- Games are won at the line of scrimmage, and Virginia can't block anybody. Is that suddenly going to change against a talented, fast and aggressive Gators front seven? Absolutely not. Even if this game is sloppy early, Gators quarterback Kyle Trask will find a way to lead his squad to a late cover.
