I hate to initiate some kind of Mission Impossible "Curse Protocol" by following a handful of other experts on Queens, but after watching the other two teams from this CBI today who played Sunday against two teams who haven't played for weeks ... there sure seems to be a massive disadvantage for those clubs who had all that time off. That's all this is because Cleveland State was the better team in the regular season. But so was overly rested Jacksonville in the first CBI game today vs. Incarnate Word, and JU got spanked.
Cleveland State hasn't played in two weeks and is 1-2 in the CBI the past two seasons, the victory coming by two over Northern Colorado. This should be another tight game with Queens, which has covered five straight and had the benefit of playing in the Ocean Center on Sunday. The Vikings went 3-5 down the stretch and might not be as excited as the Royals to be in Daytona Beach, Fla. Look for 6-7 senior Leo Colimerio (13.9 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 3.1 apg) to do it all for the Royals and help take this game to the wire.
Queens busted loose Sunday in its CBI opener for 85 points, winning by seven to improve to 5-1 ATS in its last half-dozen games. The Royals mixed in eight players, with just one working at least 30 minutes, so they should not be subjected to tired legs, especially with no travel involved in the tournament. Cleveland State last played two weeks ago and could be at a disadvantage in the early going. The Vikings dropped five of their last eight straight-up. Their offensive efficiency ranking by KenPom is 222nd. Queens need not score 85 again for a cover.
A-Sun sources say Queens is absolutely thrilled to be in Daytona and the Royals played like it when KOing dangerous NAU in the first round yesterday. Perhaps importantly, Queens has had a chance to shoot at the Ocean Center rims and found them very friendly on Sunday, hitting 56% from the floor and 55% beyond the arc, led by G Chris Ashby's 22 points. The current five-game spread cover streak includes near-misses at A-Sun tourney finalists Lipscomb & UNA and a win at CBI quarterfinalist FGCU on March 3. Meanwhile, CSU cooled late after setting the pace much of the campaign in the Horizon, enters having lost five of eight, and hasn't played in two weeks. Play Queens (CBI at Daytona Beach)
