Understanding Public and Money
The BYU Cougars weapons are strong suited for a tournament format on the front end. In a forty eight hour turn around though I favor Wisconsin. For one BYU may be a tad bit over valued based on having just one loss since early February. Wisconsin’s elevated guard play and depth will pose problems for BYU, even in the elevation of Denver. Take Wisconsin on the moneyline or -1.
Unlike the Dick Bennett and Bo Ryan years, If there's one thing about modern Wisconsin, it's that the Badgers can play uptempo if the opportunity presents itself. Wiscy nowadays has a sporty 80 ppg offense led by dynamic Gs John Tonje ( ex-CSU & Mizzou; 19.1 ppg) and frosh John Blackwell (15.6 ppg) and has scored 85+ fiver times in the past 12 games. In regard to this matchup, however, BYU and its 81 ppg offense will be glad to run, with the Cougs scoring 80+ in eight of their last ten games. Play BYU-Wisconsin Over (NCAA at Denver)
I don't make a ton of college basketball bets, but when I do, they're usually on BYU. I've been tracking this team all year and I think they can make a deep run. Wisconsin has some impressive wins on their resume, but I'm more impressed with what BYU's wins against very good teams down the stretch. This BYU offense simply doesn't go away and the Badgers don't have the defensive profile to stop it.
BYU has been red-hot over the final month, going 10-1 in its last 11 games. The Cougars have scored at least 77 points in nine of their last 10 games. The only time BYU didn’t hit that number was against a Houston defense that ranks second in the country in defensive efficiency. The Cougars' offense should continue to have success on Saturday. BYU attempts the 17th most threes per game and ranks 31st in three-point percentage. Meanwhile, Wisconsin’s perimeter defense can be exploited. The Badgers ranked 12th in the Big Ten in three-point percentage defense. I think this will be a really good game but made the Cougars slight favorites. I'll grab the 1.5 and hope the threes are falling in the Round of 32.
BYU has continued to impress here in the second half of the season and the Cougars get high marks for avoiding what many thought could be an upset special against VCU. This is a deep BYU rotation that’s built to sustain the rigors of a tournament run, with eight players averaging double-digit minutes per game and a handful of players who could lead the team in scoring on any given night. I like that versatility as a tough prep for Wisconsin, which has had some defensive issues against its toughest opponents.
