This game is at MSG…not the easiest place to shoot. Both teams are solid defensively. And Michigan is experienced. Dusty May brought some of his crew from FAU..and the guy he didn’t bring now plays for Arkansas…so Michigan will not be surprised and should have a plan.
Both in similar spots with new coaches, but thus far it looks a clear edge one way at MSG. That would be Michigan, which has made plenty of progress under new HC Dusty May, and four quality wins on the spin over Virginia Tech, Xavier, Wisconsin and Iowa. May's transfer brigade has hit the ground running and now features four newcomers each scoring at 12 ppg, while 7-1 Vladislav Goldin, whom May brought along with him from FAU, is scoring 21 pg across the past three. Meanwhile, the fit hasn't been quite so easy yet for John Calipari and his Arkansas transfer brigade, which has only two spread covers in nine games. Play Michigan (at Madison Square Garden)
Arkansas is only 2-7 ATS on the season while also being 0-2 ATS on a neutral floor. The Wolverines have won seven straight and have been in better form than Arkansas. But, even with the line moving in the Razorbacks favor, this still seems like a lot of points to be laying on a neutral floor. While Michigan has played the more difficult schedule, this is the most efficient defense they’ve played yet. The Wolverines struggled protecting the ball, averaging 15.1 turnovers, and Arkansas wants to create points off turnovers and win it with their defense.
Michigan has won seven straight, including beating Xavier and Wisconsin, entering Tuesday's Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. In a 55 percent to 45 percent vote, SportsLine Discord members favored the Wolverines to cover the spread. Arkansas is 7-2 under new coach John Calipari, while the Wolverines are 8-1 under new coach Dusty May. The Razorbacks own a win over Miami and have fallen to Baylor and Illinois. Note that this is not a Michigan home game but part of the Jimmy V Classic in New York so I don't think the Wolverines should be at -5 at a neutral site. Good team for sure but so is John Calipari's club. Our model has the Hogs losing by a point and Massey by two points. Seem like a trickier spot for Michigan simply as it already started Big Ten play but Arkansas hasn't opened SEC action yet. The Razorbacks have outscored their opponent in the second half in all nine games thus far.
