Both teams are playing excellent basketball right now, and both teams have their sights on deep runs in the NCAA Tournament. I know that history would suggest to back the home team (Creighton) here, but UConn is the best team in the country right now. I'm laying the points and backing the Huskies.
Both teams are great offensively and can fill it up. And if the first meeting was not a wonky game with only 110 total points this game would be 150. Let’s play against the outlier happening again.
Let’s take the Huskies here. They are the best team in the land right now and I don’t care what happened 5 years ago (as I keep hearing UCONn has lost 5 straight in Omaha). UCONn guard play is simply too good.
The home team has won the last four meetings and the last six have gone under the total. Creighton lost the last meeting by 22-points but they’re 11-2 SU at home this season. We all know how good the Huskies have been this season, but this is still a short line with Connecticut coming off blow out win over the Golden Eagles. Creighton had an awful offensive performance in the first meeting and allowed 22 offensive rebounds, so there could be positive progression in all aspects of their game tonight, looking for a signature win.
Creighton was losing at halftime to Butler over the weekend but roared back with an impressive final 20 minutes to win comfortably by 12 points. It was a good showing in a tough lookahead spot with UConn on deck. But the step up in competition is not being properly reflected here, even with the Huskies in a potential hangover spot following Saturday’s big win against Marquette. I think we’re dealing with two teams in different weight classes, and as long as the spread is under a possession I’m riding with the reigning champs.
UConn may be in for a let down spot on Tuesday. Since rejoining the Big East UConn has lost at Creighton every season, this includes a season low 53 points last year. In fact Creighton has won five of the last seven matchups overall. Look for Creighton to find their offense after a conference low 48 in the first matchup. Play Creighton.
Tempting as it might be for the rare chance to get Creighton plus any points, we aren’t inclined to go against UConn at the moment unless it’s the Boston Celtics on the other end of the court. After bludgeoning 4th-ranked Marquette, the Huskies became the first unanimous No. 1 in this season's polls on Monday. Granted, Creighton might have played its best game of the year on Saturday when rolling dangerous Butler by 22 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. But the Bluejays were smothered by UConn’s length in the first meeting, limited to just 34% FG shooting and harassed into converting just 6 of 26 from beyond the arc. Need a good argument to go against the Huskies right now. Play UConn
