Will Jim Hiller's ill-advised challenge of Evander Kane's tying goal in the 3rd period of Game 3 come back to haunt the Kings? Risking an Edmonton power play, Pierre Bouchard put the Oilers ahead ten seconds later en route to the 7-4 final. Remember there is recent playoff history in this matchup that is all Oilers as they seek their fourth postseason triumph in a row over the Kings, and Darcy Kuemper's surprising struggles in goal (he has a 4.04 GAA and only .859 saves in this series) suggests the Oilers can even the score tonight...and perhaps we look back at the LA strategic blunder on Friday as the turning point in this series. Play Oilers on Money Line
"Wild West" indeed in this series! Each game has featured no fewer than eight goals, and as many as eleven. Kris Knoblauch doesn't seem to have an answer, pulling Stuart Skinner after game 2 and holding on for dear life with Cal Pickard in Game 3. A bigger surprise, however, is LA's Darcy Kuemper, solid all season but with a 4.04 GAA and only .859 saves in the first three games. With Evander Kane having returned to active duty and bolstering the Oilers' third line, there is scoring depth beyond the McDavid-Draisaitl line, and the Oilers power play started to click on Friday when it quickly converted the game-winning goal by Evan Bouchard ten seconds after Kane tied the game. Play Kings-Oilers Over
The series has seen 30 goals scored in three games thus far. Edmonton has serious firepower in the offensive zone, and they are having significant issues in net on the other end. Getting this number at +106 seems too good to be true.
For me this comes down to the Kings' struggles away from home this season. I can't see the Oilers getting out of the Western Conference with their goaltending issues, but they remain one of the most electric teams in the NHL. I expect this series to head back to Los Angeles tied 2-2.
Thank you Oilers for cashing my biggest NHL bet of the season in Game 3. Major sweat for a while there, but that's why Edmonton is so fun. All of a sudden, seven goals. Not quite that confident here (you really can't ever be that super-duper confident with their goaltending), but I see no reason why they won't win again at home on Sunday. The Kings are now three games under .500 away this season. That's now 17 straight playoff games vs. LA with at least one point for Leon Draisaitl.
