History shows Justin Herbert does a fantastic job against the Chiefs with a 4-1 ATS mark and the lone loss coming when Kansas City won in overtime. The Chargers are also getting key reinforcements at wideout with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams returning. This as the Chiefs are without two of their top receivers. However, the addition of Kadarius Toney should not be overlooked as KC still has plenty of pass-catching threats. Los Angeles’ wins this season have come against teams with a combined 14-34-1 record – all of them under .500 individually. Sharps are all over the Chargers, but the Chiefs’ strong defensive front (Frank Clark is back) should limit Austin Ekeler and make the hosts one-dimensional. Patrick Mahomes is 13-2 SU in November and has a chance to all but lock up the AFC West on Sunday night. You should be able to get this at -5 if you shop around.
Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are game-time decisions, but both practiced in full Friday and told ESPN they expect to play. That's two big-bodied WRs against the Chiefs' smaller corners. The Chargers with their top two WRs back are a live 'dog in any game, especially at home against a division rival. And as good as the Chiefs are, they are not great at covering spreads -- they sit under .500 for the season (4-5, and that would be 3-6 if the Jags hit just one of two missed FGs). Grab the points.
Since Justin Herbert took over as Chargers quarterback, he has faced the Chiefs five times. LA won outright twice, lost two overtime games, and fell by a field goal in Kansas City this season. The best of the number is long gone, but I'll still back the Chargers and their improving injury situation. Keenan Allen and Mike Williams both are practicing on a limited basis, while the Chiefs are dealing with multiple injuries at wideout. Take the points.
It's probably common to think the 2022 Chargers have had a disappointing season, but they had won four of their previous five games before hanging with the 49ers and covering last Sunday. They covered as four-point 'dogs in Kansas City in Week 2 despite suffering a number of key injuries in that game. Now the Chargers may be getting healthier at receiver while the Chiefs are managing injuries to their top three wideouts. The Chiefs are also searching for consistency in the run game, which is where you'd want to exploit this Chargers defense. The last time the Chiefs beat the Chargers by 7, Philip Rivers was QB, so I'll anticipate another close game.
