It's difficult to see a scenario in which the Jets are competitive in this game. They don't have playmakers or a defense, and there's a massive coaching edge leaning the Saints' direction. New Orleans, meanwhile, gets its top playmaker in Alvin Kamara back. Taysom Hill may be dealing with a finger injury, but the Saints may not need to pass much Sunday; and when they do, it will be against one of the worst secondaries in the NFL. All of this against a rookie QB who was struggling even when he did have his starting pass catchers, which he does not in this game. It may be close for a bit, but look for New Orleans to pull away in the second half to win by a touchdown or more.
The Saints are getting back both Alvin Kamara and Terron Armstead which, even with Taysom Hill’s limits as a thrower and his injured hand, should give the offense a boost. On the other side, the Jets put rookie standout WR Elijah Moore and WR Corey Davis on injured reserve, making struggling rookie QB Zach Wilson even more likely to keep struggling. Throw in that the Saints allow the fewest yards per carry in the league, and you’ve got to wonder how the Jets are going to score much here. Lay the points.
This is quite a low total when one side sends out the worst defense in the league, yielding an average of 30.6 points. The Saints’ offense has been hamstrung with the absence of QB Jameis Winston and others, but reinforcements are on the way. RB Alvin Kamara and All-Pro OT Terron Armstead return from injury to take some heat off QB Taysom Hill. Five of the last half-dozen New Orleans games have gone north of this number.
Taysom Hill is playing through a finger injury that may limit his effectiveness as a passer, but there's a reason the Saints are still big favorites. Hill gets a plus matchup in a terrible Jets defense where he might not have to throw a bunch to have success. Alvin Kamara and Terron Armstead are also back in the fold, which boosts the upside of the offense in general. And while Elijah Moore is listed as questionable, the electric rookie hasn't practiced all week, which will likely leave the Jets even more shorthanded at receiver with Corey Davis out for the year. If the Jets fall behind, how will Zach Wilson rally the offense to a backdoor cover? Answer: He won't.
