Washington's offense, with feisty QB Taylor Heinicke, is not half-bad. It significantly outgained Green Bay last week, only to peter out in the red zone. That was the third game in which Washington exceeded 400 yards. Denver has dropped three in a row outright, not once surpassing 22 points scored. While Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy (ankle) returns, he should be rusty after a long layoff. The hook matters here.
Washington may have a poor record (2-5), but all five of its losses have been against quality teams. In last week’s loss against the Packers, Washington moved the football well but could not execute in plus territory. I expect better execution against the Broncos. I'm on Washington.
Washington deserved better last week against the Packers, repeatedly taking the ball inside field goal range and failing to come away with points. But that doesn't mean the Football Team is any good; in fact, Washington is a last-second Week 2 field goal and a remarkably bad defensive effort by Atlanta on a late 30-yard J.D. McKissic TD away from being 0-7. The Broncos fooled the public into thinking they were good thanks to three excellent games against bad teams to start the season. Well, Washington could easily fall into that bucket of bad teams. If Jerry Jeudy is cleared to return, this line will go up, so I'm hopping on it now while it's still at Broncos -3.
The Broncos' season has turned south after a 3-0 start during a super-soft run of opponents. While the offense has struggled, it's played several quality defenses. Here, the Broncos offense matches up against a Washington defense that has allowed a league-worst 30 points per game and 19 pass touchdowns in all. That's good news with Teddy Bridgewater likely far healthier following the minibye, and he could have Jerry Jeudy and Albert Okwuegbunam back as well. Denver's defense, meanwhile, struggled for three straight weeks before facing Case Keenum -- and still let D'Ernest Johnson have a career day. With Von Miller's status uncertain, this seems like a game destined to go Over.
