You can make a case that the Jets should be favored here. They're in far better current form, and their injury report looks much better than the Patriots'. Damien Harris is out again. With the Pats averaging eight points during their current three-game skid, back New York.
As weird as it sounds, this isn't a good matchup for the Patriots. The one thing New England can do on offense is run the ball, but the Jets have a good rush defense, allowing fewer than 4 yards per carry. When these teams met on a Monday night in Week 9, the Jets actually led by 10 in the fourth quarter (with Joe Flacco at QB!) before some strange things started happening. We might see some Jarrett Stidham in this one; grab the points.
The Jets caught two straight opponents looking ahead and managed to turn those games into outright wins as huge underdogs. That obviously can't happen in the last game of the season ... or can it? The Patriots sure looked like they were looking ahead to the offseason in a blowout loss to the Bills on Monday, and I don't know that they come into this one focused with nothing to play for. We could also see an extended look at Jarrett Stidham again, which is good news for a Jets defense that has performed better than their New England counterparts this year. The line seems fair with the Patriots limping to the finish line, but I'll back the apparently more motivated Jets squad.
